Hi my son is leaving on the 23rd but won't actually fly out for the GL until the 24th. He is also staying in the GL for A school. Hopefully we will find out exactly what we can bring them at Graduation. I read their cell phone & maybe just a change of clothes that they can fit in their backpack. I know we will have to wait while they are being processed before they get liberty. But did read they can have liberty sat & sun which is great since I thought we would only get to see him for a few hrs after grad. Maybe we can keep each other updated once our SR leaves?

They do get a nice Thanksgiving dinner in boot camp.  Over the Christmas holiday, they continue training, but will have "relaxed" or Sunday schedule on Christmas and New Years Day.  They can attend church services on Christmas if they choose.  I am not religious and I chose church to go listen to the music.  Some of the divisions might be adopted by church groups for the day, but usually nit the new divisions.  If that happens, keep an eye out for a call if some nice church lady lends them a phone.  There are too many recruits for them all to make holiday calls, so don't count on one.  You may send cards, just no glitter, confetti, or musical cards, or voice recorded cards.

After PIR, the ones staying in Great Lakes are bussed over to TSC to check into their barracks.  This takes a few hours, but they should have the evening off, plus Sat and Sun all day (no overnights).  You may give them their items once they have checked into TSC, not before (so Friday evening).  They can have their phones, a few civilian clothes to wear when they can, and a laptop.  Wait on larger items, although some do get a TV or gaming system, it is best to find out how many roommates they will have, and what they need to do in order to have such items in their rooms.  Do bring their own underwear/boxers, every guy wants those!

My son also left on November 23, sworn in and left for boot camp at Great Lake on November 24th. I soooo miss him. I'm glad to know they will have a holiday dinner(s). Thank you all for the information.

I'm wondering when I will get my sons address, he arrived at Bootcamp on the 25th. I'm already writing a letter but don't know where to send it, also I want to make arrangements with my work to take days off for graduation but don't know that date yet.

Tania, you will receive The Form Letter next week--ten days after arrival is average. It will include his address and PIR date. His PIR date is most likely 01/23/2015, but it could also be 01/16/2015 since he arrived on a Tuesday. You'll have to wait on The Form Letter to know for sure. See  Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).
