Thanks for the insight, Bunker. What you say is true. We are just operating in a "defend our sailor" mode right now and are hurting for him. There are exceptions to almost every rule and our knee-jerk reaction is to do whatever is possible to help. It's not like they are having a garage sale or something. Anyway, I always appreciate hearing both sides. So, we'll let that part go. One of the great things about blogs is the diversity of viewpoints and I appreciate yours. :)

We are protective of our sons and daughters. We all see red when one of them gets taken advantage of. The Homeowners Association is entrusted with enforcing the CC&Rs (Covenants, Conditions & Restrictions) for the complex. The members of the Boards of Directors may in fact agree with you (as an individual) but as a member of the Board of Directors can not approve of posting flyers regardless of the message.  I am not sure what I would have done if I were on the Board. I would have to look at the Bylaws and the Rules (part of the CC&Rs) for the complex and do everything within my power to get the message out.  I think calling the members of the Board directly and ask for help in getting the word out may be one step. If father/son know other residents, they could ask if some one them could participate in a phone tree. Or the neighborhood watch group (for crime prevention). Perhaps a comment can be included in the next issue of the newsletter. I don't know how many units are in the complex. As a realtor, I have sent out letter asking for help from neighbors in case of lost pets (escrow closing, moving van coming and cats have run off). If there is a realtor who specializes in complex, contact him/her and ask if he/she would be willing to send a postcard to all the units asking for return of the seabag.

For larger complexes, most likely a management company has been contracted to act on behalf of the Board. By the way, being a Board member is an unpaid, volunteer position - often unappreciated. The owners of the units can propose changes to the ByLaws, Rules & Regulations.

I am not going to comment of restrictions on flying the American flag other than I would fly it until someone tell me otherwise. Our trend to be politically correct is stupid.

Comment by SoCal_Sailor_Dad on December 19, 2014 at 1:38pm

NancyJo, that is probably the same type of HOA that tries to ban residents from flying the American flag.

He ended up just going online and ordered new uniforms. He should get them in the next couple days. Since they were still traveling there was just no way that he would have the time to shop around.

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on December 19, 2014 at 1:10pm

The flyers were asking whoever took the seabag to return it, no questions asked.

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on December 19, 2014 at 1:10pm

Unbelievably, my son and his dad hung flyers in the neighborhood and the HOA made them take them down. My daughter was on Facebook and asked why the HOA was compelled to do this and my ex said: "Because they are idiots. They don't realize, I guess, that my son is willing to put his life on the line to allow them the freedom of being stupid." Well said.

NancyJo, I am so sorry to hear about your sailors misfortune, too.  Just an idea to try and track down the perps.  Call local radio & TV shows and see if they will publicize the incident. Someone may have seen the sea bag.

Happy RED shirt Friday!

Harley rider - there is a Subway on base that is very popular.  I heard that the McDonalds was closed recently but I don't know for sure.  Best Buy is also popular - I'm sure a gift card for that would be put to good use - and I believe they give a military discount!  It's been over a year since my son was there so I'm not up to date on the restaurants.  I'm sure someone else will chime in for you!

On Sunday it will mark the 2 year anniversary that my sailor graduated BC (along with Mommamacs son!).  Can't believe how the time has both flown by and stood still at times!  And now we are 1 month from graduation - WOW!

Having our Christmas lunch at work today - bringing in the taco truck and mariachi's!  So thankful that the last couple of years business has picked up again....it's good to see the yard busy.

Comment by peejinator on December 19, 2014 at 12:30pm

There is a Burger King and a Hardees not too far off the base.  Not really walking distance, but if they drive, those are two other fast food choices.
