My son is in HM A school (just arrived) and we have heard rumors that the anatomy flash cards and coloring books would be helpful.  Just wondering if there is a specific brand as I have looked on Amazon and have found several and don't want to purchase the wrong ones to send as a gift.  If there is any thing else that I could also send as a study guide that someone could tell me too.  He called home the other day and said that the other sailors told him an ipad or computer wouldn't be that much help not to spend the money.  Any others with the same experience?  Thank you so much for any information!

Merry Christmas and a Safe New Year!!

Tracy, I got my HM the coloring book, colored pencils, and flash cards when he was in a school, and honestly, they were all still in the wrappers when I helped him unpack at his 1st duty station. He got some of the better grades in the class, and was able to succeed by taking part in study groups and getting together with friends. He did use a lot of homemade flash cards. It's up to you if you think he will use them or not, but a great gift would be gift cards to Starbucks, there's an amc theater that the kids go to on the riverwalk frequently, Visa cards bc there is all kinds of great restaurants on the riverwalk as well, or subway which is on the base. Hope this info is helpful. Merry Christmas to you and your family!!! And no, he did not have his laptop or iPad with him, either.
...also I think it's yellowcab taxi service there, but if you could double check and get gift cards on line, my kid spent a FORTUNE on cab fare while he was there.

Wonderful!  I never thought of a cab gift card.  He doesn't start school until Jan 8th I think and has already spent a lot on cab fares since they are not in school yet.  Thanks for the great ideas!
