Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 077 and 078

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important

Every single concern is genuine

Every single member is important to us

We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Can't wait until January 30, revived my first letter from my SR. this week!
No letters yet.
I am sure you will get one soon!

Got a call from my son!  Talked for 30 minutes!  SO HAPPY!  HE IS DOING GREAT!

OMG! I just got a call from my SR.  He said that it's pretty easy and doesn't feel like he is really at boot camp. During the first day of P-day one wisdom tooth was removed and has one that they left in because it was in deep.  Everyone had to stay awake for 36 hours but he was able to sleep because he was a little sick after having his wisdom tooth removed. He says that he is well liked and passed PT including the swim test (only 2 other SR passed the swim test).  They started with about 111 and are down to about 95 SR for his division.  He was made APO (athletic petty officer).  He didn't do so well on his weapons training.  They have a test on Monday and need to identify the different ships, etc.  He likes the food for the most part except the eggs and is getting enough to eat.  I am so glad to hear that he likes boot camp and has made lots of friends.

I hope you all receive calls soon.

Sherrie - are you 77 or 78 div?
Got my first call tonight, so gereat to hear my sons voice!

Dawn - are you 77 or 78?

78

He's in 77.

I got my first letter too with similar good news!! He knows I worry so much about him. He also said he was enjoying the food, was leaning out and gaining muscle and eating all the right colors of foods on his plate :) I'm so proud of him! But now that you mention your SR's wisdom tooth, I know mine had some issues, too, but no mention of his wisdom teeth being removed. I hope to hear his voice on Christmas and can't wait for January 30th! I had seen in some other posts about a "meet and greet" dinner. Can y'all inform this newbie Navy mom what to expect? Do I need to take anything? What's a good gift recommendation for my SR that he can keep with him?

God bless you all. <3

I hope some calls come in on Christmas for you all too, but with 5,000-6,000 SRs on base, few will get to call on that day (hoping yours is one though!).  But they could call today so have the phones close!  When my son was in Bootcamp, also this time of year, he called on Christmas Eve day.

Sarge's MeetandGreet is held the night before PIR for all in this PIR group.  You don't need to bring anything!  Just go and enjoy.  You will see his MeetandGreets listed in the EVENTS section, below and to the left on this page.  He serves dinner to everyone and gives an info presentation for PIR weekend.  He does accept donations if anyone wants to drop any money into the boxes, but of course, not necessary.  He and his wife pay out of pocket each week for this dinner (the room is donated to him).

Gifts for sailors are very personal!  Just remember that if staying at RTC and flying out to A School, they can take nothing back to base....you can meet your sailor at the airport to give him/her personal items.  Some like to shop with their sailors after PIR and let them pick out something; others give them giftcards to use once they arrive at A School (a NEX card is a good one so they can shop at the Navy Exchange on base---or----favorite store giftcards once they phase up (2-3 weeks) and can leave base---just research those stores in their A School area to make sure they are nearby).  Some buy their sailors a new phone, some a watch.  So lots of ideas out there!
