I received my first phone call!!!! Ship 03 division 073. 38 blissful minutes with my SR! He cried when he heard my voice as I did when I heard his. But he is doing really good I had so many questions to ask. I kept my list with me so I pulled it out soon as I heard his voice. The pay phone he was using was kind of staticky and it cut in and out-at one point I thought I lost him but I didn't. He said he won't know if he leaves for A school the night of PIR or the next morning, and he won't know until probably the day before or the day of. He said the guys are calming down & are not quite as rowdy- thank goodness! the reason he missed his call last week was because he was in SIQ having wisdom teeth removed. He said the food is really good! He doesn't sleep much and is very busy yet at the same time it seems like they have a lot of waiting around time. Something that surprises me a little bit is he said he will go for days without letters and then receive a pile all at once. I'm glad I numbered my envelopes because they have been arriving in all different order. He said that some of the other guys have not received any mail yet but if we are using the address they put on their form letter it will get to them eventually.I sent 100 christmas cards with a hand written note in each from coworkers in my office. I mailed them last week in 1 large envelope as suggested on this site. He seemed very touched by that and said he would not mind having them out at all. He said that everyone there lives for the letters and please don't stop writing. He also said he really likes the church he is going to-it is very uplifting. This made my whole month! He cried when he said goodbye again and told me he loved me. But he is doing good and that makes me one happy momma!
Congrats on the calls!
And thank you for posting that they are coming in and what divisions are calling. :-D
There are many members who join the PIR groups but never post and only feel comfortable just reading so it helps them out.
Ship 03 Div 073 I got a call!
074 calling! One happy momma here!!!
Getting into the military frame of mind with a loved one in is hard. You will find that friends/family who don't have anyone in the military will try to comfort you, but they don't understand....especially when they compare someone off at college to like being in the military....grrrr! They MEAN well, but have no idea what is so hard is the lack of control our loved ones have over their lives (owned by the Navy!) and most of all, no contact except for when the Navy says, ok, you can call or write now. HA! But the good news is that during A School, it really IS more like a college experience....except they are much more restricted than college students (as far as leaving base, returning to base, and radius they can travel from base!). But all keep in mind what a wonderful thing they are doing....serving their country. Nothing better! :-)
Just call a call from my SR, Division 71. Unexpected don't know why, but have your phones ready!!!!!
