OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Interior Communications Electrician
Interior Communications Electricians (ICs) install, maintain and repair the equipment needed for interior communications within ships and shore facilities. These communication systems include public address systems, interior telephone systems, alarm systems, engine telegraphs to communicate orders for changes in engine speed from the bridge (ship's command station) to the engine room, certain kinds of ship control and equipment monitoring devices, the ship's gyrocompass, the rudder position indicator, audio-visual equipment for the ship's TV entertainment systems, advanced navigation and various other equipment.
The duties performed by IC's include:
Maintaining and repairing interior communications systems;
Preparing and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams and sketches;
Installing and inspecting dry cell and storage batteries;
Recharging wet cell batteries;
Testing interior communications and gyrocompass equipment;
Installing telephone and other communications circuits, boxes, switchboards and bell buzzer systems;
Maintaining plotters and dead reckoning equipment;
Maintaining and operating TV systems;
Working Environment :
People in the IC rating work in many different situations, at sea and ashore. While most of their work is performed indoors, it may be in a clean or dirty environment of a shop-like nature, and it may be in any kind of climate or temperature. IC's usually work closely with others. Most systems IC's work on is of the modern solid state electronic type, making the rating a very technical profession.
A-School Information:
Great Lakes, IL -- 10 weeks
Some Interior Communications Electricians who graduate from "A" school go on to advanced training courses such as gyrocompass and advanced TV maintenance. Others are assigned to duty stations where they can continue learning their rating through on-the-job training.

Im am sooo Trilled to have Paige's son stay at our home. I do have to clean my sons room.gives me reason to Spring clean a little early. Since my sailor doesnt say much I can ask him a few things about an IC. Since my son is deployed its the next best thing to having him. It will make my HEART HAPPY

Checkin on everyone Its a New Year so that means my son is halfway thru his deployment. YIPPEE we do get emails and a few facebook messages they are hit and miss. this is already a Tuff Christmas Season.We will be spending some time with our daughtrs family. Oh my sweet granddaughter. She brings me so much Joy and she will be 2 on Saturday. we are anticipating a call from our Sailor Cant wait. One fun occasion for the ship was a concert country singer Tyler Farr. So they do make things Merry and Bright for them.

So great to here from you Paige. My thoughts have been with you and your son.
My son is now in the Persian Gulf WOW i mostly get emails and now and then he is on Facebook. it may be a private message. which comes usually in the middle of the nite. he says he works his shift eats works out at the gym sleeps starts allover again. His birthday is in Dec im putting together a birthday box.
New Moms i found it very hard to locate other IC moms perhaps you can reach out to your PIR group and ask if there is anyone. I only know a couple from my sons PIR. we are friends on FB . sometimes mention our group on some pages here. thinking of all in bootcamp and A school.

Holymac let me first say Prayers for Faith. My son is not in this situation which i am thankful for. Perhaps another group here for spouses|girlfriends can help. An IC job I believe is 75 80% on a ship. Some are in port for an extended time.Just Depends where they are stationed. Cant stop Love. Its good he told you what he wants to do.

ADVICE PLEASE! Our son just went through PIR on 10/3 and now is on a short (hopefully) hold for A school. He texted me yesterday morning that he wants to ask his gf to marry him (they are noth 19). We had a lengthy discussion last night (okay, it wasn't a discussion per say, I talked and he listened) and I told him all of my concerns, young, beginning his military career, military marriages are even more difficult than non - military marriages (just ask his sister, her husband is a Marine). And he listened to me but I could tell I didn't sway him one bit. His gf is nice enough, but she is very emotionally needy, much more immature than he is, has no real direction in life yet, and could hardly handle him being at bootcamp, how is she going to handle deployment as his wife?! I wish I had a sailor who has been through it that I could put him in touch with who he might listen to more than his parents. I did tell him to talk to his superiors and he did say that the RDCs told them all to wait until after C school. I know that he is an adult and can and will make his own decisions but I wish I could stop him from making a bad decision. My feeling is that he wants to do this to appease her. Any advice?
