Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of February (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have February ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in February, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I also have info on the PACT programs if your future Sailor has a contract for one of those.

Comment by lemonelephant on January 25, 2015 at 5:18pm: Every recruit has 6 actual weeks of training, which begin after the processing days (P-days) are over. There are 4 P-days, but some recruits will have additional days in P-HOLD if there are not enough recruits to fill the division. Some recruits may be at the RTC as few as 7 weeks (they would be in a Push Division) and some could be at the RTC as long as 10 weeks. The average time that a recruit is at the RTC when there are no problems is 8 1/2 weeks (9 Fridays). Arrival and What Happens at the RTC explains that.

Comment by lemonelephant on January 25, 2015 at 5:13pm: Stevensmom, PIR is almost always on Friday. It is NEVER on Saturday. By counting 9 Fridays, his PIR date is most likely 04/24/2015, but know that it could be the week before (less likely for one arriving at the end of the week as he will) or the week after (possible for one arriving at the end of the week if he is placed in a division for the next week's TG. You will have to wait on The Form Letter to know for sure. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that and more.

I am very excited for him, the emotions have gotten to me on a few occasions but over all excited and proud. I have to say his recruiting officers for the DEP have been a great source of information for all of us and in mentoring my son. We will miss him, especially my 5 year old grandson, but happy for him at the same time. We will enjoy the 2weeks while finishing any to do lists.

We are all excited to see what adventures await him! I am starting to have mixed emotions as he looks to leave the nest! If anyone else has a sailor leaving at that time I would love to connect!

Comment by lemonelephant on January 22, 2015 at 3:01pm: If you haven't done so lately, or at all, check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor) and then Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

This is a new adventure for me and my family. As time gets closer to my son leaving , things seem to mean more. He is leaving from St. Louis Feb. 4^th.
