NancyM, Am sorry to hear your son's news, but am sending good wishes that he'll find something more suited to him.  Hope you all can enjoy your time together and that he gets restored for the next phase of his journey.  Please give him our best wishes.

Oh NancyM, I am so sorry. Hug your son a lot while he is home and you both can be proud he was chosen to try the nuke program. I am certain he learned a ton. He should find a great place to fir in, I think they put so much into these young nukes that they place them at a new decent job. I think they quite often end up being non nuke MM's or EM's don't know if there is an non nuke ET, is there anyone know?

Just a quick word of thanks to everyone! I lurk a lot on this site because every time I have a question, some one else asks it too! We've had a great visit to Charleston because of recommendations on this site and have had many moments of relief due to answers to questions found here as well. Unfortunately, I will be leaving this group. My sailor didn't make it past his Powerschool comps (followed by an acboard the next day). He is home on leave and is decompressing. It's sad, and he is going to miss it, but he's adjusting. I am grateful to all the others who have shared their stories on this site so that we have the comfort of seeing where other sailors journeys have taken them after leaving the Nuke program. Thanks for all your time and answers! Best of luck to you and your Sailors.

My sons father picked him up at goose creek the day he arrived and took him to get supplies

I see. I can't answer that one from experience. If they can go off base on the weekend, I would assume they can go with anybody. Does anyone know any differently?

Comment by CarolR,KRmom on January 22, 2015 at 7:22pm
Thank you NancyJo I think that will answer my question. My sailor was in fit and had no pir so I was unable to give him the things he needs including a phone. I was mainly curious about liberty on Saturday if it was off base and if a relative can take them and bring them back. I was also curious the items listed how do they go about getting them? Does someone take the new arrivals out in town shopping? We are trying to work out logistics. The address given is that the one I would send his personal items to right now? Thank you
Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on January 22, 2015 at 4:59pm

Your son getting delayed probably will still not be enough to get him the privilege of being picked up by family in SC. There are sailors in GC who get chauffeur duty. However, don't worry. The sailors love to go shopping and Best Buy is one of the first places they hit. See on the right of this "Your Sailor's Schedule Upon Arrival go GC". It lays that part out for you a bit.

My son is a sailor now and is expected to fly out on Friday. He was delayed and was unable to go to his pir. I was curious can his brother pick him up from gc on Saturday and take him shopping to get needed items and a phone. Not sure how the liberty works at gc. Thank you
