Let's chat about our wonderful sons and daughters who have chosen the PACT program.

Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

Hello Everyone, My son is E-pact also and is now on the USS Whidbey Island. While I got to have my son home for Christmas, they did cut his leave short, only 8 days.   That ended up being quite a cost for a plane ticket but he really wanted to be home as we missed him last year as he was at BC.

The e-pact notes on the side were very helpful.  I still need to go over the Navy Abbreviations and Terms.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the kind encouraging words. I have raised him to work hard and I am trusting that he is exactly where he needs to be!

Son of a family friend started as PACT within a month of graduating from high school. He didn't want to sit around the house and he wasn't interested in going to college. He did a lot of paint scrapping, cleaning, etc. It turns out he has an ear for languages. Fast forward 3 years - he is going to the Monterey Language school. He would have never going in that program right out of high school.  I think it may be easier for a young guy right out of high school or junior college but may be difficult for an older recruit w high expectations and life experience.  At the end of the day, everyone just want what is best for her/his child.

From what I know, he will stay in Great Lakes for about 3 weeks or so after boot camp. I know there are lots of negative comments on the Internet about the PACT programs. My son is just finishing boot camp so I don't have lots of knowledge yet, but I have messaged with many that have had great experiences. I think part of the problem is that people always want to post when they aren't happy because they need to vent, but most don't post just to say they are happy. I am a teacher and I'm sure you could find plenty of people that would tell a young person "Whatever you do, don't go into teaching." My son has an idea what he wants in aviation but was concerned that if he just chose one because it showed up at MEPS, he might be choosing something he doesn't even like. He now can see the different areas of aviation and make his choice. It might take him longer to end up in the perfect one for him, but better that than ending up doing something he doesn't enjoy for 4 years.

I would love to hear about others experience with the S-PACT program. Any advice for my son before he leaves? Where do they do A school if they are not picking a specific job?
