Navy Mom: You live close go to BESS graduation. It is much more intimate and by then your son knows where he is heading and usually gets time off. We got to take pictures, they would stop and let you. There are special awards for those who finish top in their class and hearing them sing "Anchors Away" is priceless!!!

Welcome A Navy Mom! There's a small graduation from A school but it's not anything like PIR. Unless you live close to Groton most don't go. Hope this helps!

My son graduated bootcamp 1-30-15 and flew out to sub school in Groton, CT - this is a new step for me -any tips? Do they have a graduation?

My son reenlisted last Friday. He is in Hawaii and somehow got the ceremony done on Koko Head, a high mountain there. The scenery was beautiful. Another sailor taped it and we were able to see it. That may mean an extra trip to HI, maybe, you all know how the Navy is.

Getting Dolphins is an important step as you actually are considered part of the team! Congrats to all who earned them!!!

Momof 4: It is fun to think about halfway boxes and such, but it all depends on the sub he is on and the rules the commanders impose. It appears this time when my son is deployed that they will only be getting a ziplock bag, where last time I could send a large postal box.

Bravo Zulu to our sailors!!!!

Well my sailor will be officially assigned to a sub by May. He will graduate Prototype endish of march and have a month leave and relocation time of leave. He is thinking it will be San Diego, Hawaii or Bangor. Then I am hoping to maybe move close by and open my bakery close or on base.

Congrats to all the new dolphins!

NOTE:  Check with the sub's command before sending flash drives, to see if they're allowed.  My son's boat prohibits them.

Momof4- I sent my son a package for Christmas that he said was awesome:)! He is a big sports fan, so I downloaded lots of highlights from his favorite teams using youtube downloader and put them on a flash drive. His church also videos their services so I was able to include some of those also. They love getting these little bits of home that we all take for granted.

momof4,

Please read the "Page" (another name for 'file') titled, "Halfway Boxes & Mail Drops."  You'll find it in the far, right-hand column.  We've given lots of info regarding these events

Mail drops are sometimes a shoebox-sized container, or perhaps a gallon Ziploc, or even just a 9x12 FLAT manila envelope and the Ombudsman or FRG (Family Readiness Group) for your son's boat has the specifications for his package.
