I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

It all depends, when my husband was at bootcamp I got a call every 2.5 weeks then after I got the "I'm a sailor" call I got a call every day up until the day before PIR. I only got a total of 3 letters though because he was really busy since he was division RPOC and honor recruit. In my experience bootcamp went by really quick and it wasn't so bad even with a toddler here at home. Good luck and stay busy :)

Honestly... It depends who is his chief and petty officers. My husband called me a total of four times. The first one was to tell me to go to his recruiters with my ID so they can photo copy it for DEERS. The second time was about thirty minutes three weeks after he arrived or so. The following one was about two weeks after that, then was the "I'm a sailor" call. He had a final ten minute call which he happened to call me the day before graduation. It all depends on their division cause he was supposed to call me one weekend but someone messed it up for everyone. We each have our own experience so it's all different, I got four but someone got two and others got five and tons of letters. My hubby isn't a writer so I only received a few letters. Hope that helps.

My husband left 1/6/15. I got the box a few days later. The form letter about two weeks after he left. I had my first call on 1/17/15 and another one this past Sunday. He also said he mailed his first letters to me this past Sunday, however some people were able to mail them a week before that. Good luck! It goes by fast!

My husband left for boot camp on the 26th. I got the call tonight that he made it safely and that I will receive a box within 3 weeks and another call in 3 weeks? I was just wondering how soon did it take to hear from your sailor once they went to boot camp?

Thank you for your help anti m. I will definitely relay all that info to her :)

In addition to enrolling her in DEERS/page two, he needs ot be sure the detailer is updated that he married.

I believe he can do this online with his CAC card, but as a student, I am not sure.  He should ask PSD/his COC how to go about that.  Do not take it for granted that it happens, he needs to get on top of that and make sure.

Thank you anti m :) his rate is PR and he is at NAS in pensacola. He has not received orders yet but they are getting married in 2 weeks. I told her that with anything always anticipate something taking longer than it should. I told her at the soonest BAH can kick in after a month of everything is done properly but it also can take up to 2 months.
Comment by Anti M on January 27, 2015 at 3:55pm

If temp lodging is authorized, and house hunting leave is granted, those are usually for ten days.

Comment by Anti M on January 27, 2015 at 3:54pm

BAH can take a few pay cycles to kick in, about a month, maybe two.  It will be dated to when they married.

Does he already have his orders?  If so, then none of her travel, including temp lodging while looking for a place, will  be covered.  They must marry with enough time to get the paperwork into the system so the detailer will know to issue accompanied orders.  Usually a minimum of four weeks before the orders are issued, which is usually (but not always) before A school graduation.

There is a lot of variation.  Which rating/school?

hello everyone, i am asking a question for my friend since i want to give her correct info since I'm not too sure how it goes when your newly married.

her and her sailor are getting married in a few weeks and he is to graduate A school in march. how soon after do they receive BAH, and do they qualify for temporary lodging together if they don't find a place to live right away at their PDS.

thanks in advance :)
