OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

mygemforever - Not sure about the PIR groups on FB but if you want to try and find pictures of your SR, go to the RTC FB page.

Here is the link:

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command

They post random pictures (no requests please, they won't do that) from time to time.

Recently they uploaded about 185 of them!

Here is the direct link for that:

Me too! I did get the form letter on Monday. I talked to him this past Sunday and he said he just mailed another letter. I'm waiting for the mail lady again. LOL!

In case I forgot to say my recruit is Ship 14 Div 111.  Any other N$M members have the same? I would love to get to know you.

We booked our flight yesterday but before reading all the post here.   Ramada Waukegan/Gurnee is where we are booked with a non refundable room.  Since the reviews were half and half, I will post my "stay review" here after the fact so other families will know.

Comment by RPSMother on January 29, 2015 at 12:31pm

CatMom509 Thank you for the information, and too bad we had already booked there before I saw your review link.  Our booking is non-refundable so we are stuck.  :-(
