OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Mamabear522, the first call I got was an area code 847. Was just wondering coz I got a missed call from an area code 845. I tried to answer the call but it was too late, it ended up being a missed call. Thank you for the info. That made me feel better. But nonetheless, I am still hoping it was not my son!

When you received calls recently from Your SR, what area code did you get ? Did anybody receive a call from an 845 area code?

RPSMother Our son is going to be an AD (Aviation Machinist Mate). He can't wait to go on a ship and travel to experience different cultures. Hopefully he will get that chance.

KDSmom Good to hear you got a quick call.  We are still waiting to get a second call as well.  Sorry to say but my recruit will be going to A School in SC to start their RPS (Religious Program Specialist).    What is your child's career plan?

RPSMother we did receive the quick "I'm Here!" phone call from RTC that evening around 9:40 but I was hoping to get another phone call soon just to see how he was doing. Just wishful thinking! Is your son going to Pensacola as well?
Comment by RPSMother on January 30, 2015 at 6:44pm

KDSmom My son also left on January 20th and he is in Ship 14 Div 111 as well, We received a 29 sec phone call from him on that very same evening.  Are you sure he didn't try to call you?  If he did not or you missed his call I will pray that you receive one soon.

Gd ones anyone know how long graduation takes before we can take her off base? Trying to surprise her with her friends for a lunch or dinner ?
Comment by KDSmom on January 30, 2015 at 6:16pm

My son left January 20 for RTC. He is in Ship 14 Div 111. We received his form letter January 26 and his box the next day. Still waiting with much anxiety for a letter or phone call. Made hotel reservations at the Residence Inn. Very nice people and got an even better rate using my AAA card. There is also no cancellation fee unless you cancel within 24 hours. After PIR on the March 13 he heads off to A-school in Pensacola.  This is such an emotional process for everyone.
