N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

It is possible that the SRs receive some of the "free" phone cards in their "ditty bags" but we are seeing posts recently that some of them do not work.  I still suggest sending your own phone card to them.

*see post "above" for hotel info....sorry, Krafingirl!

The SRs had a supply card issued to them when they arrived (cost taken out of their 1st pay).  They can buy a phone card at the NEX....but it is a good idea to send them one too.  Make sure it has at least 250 min on it, maybe more.  The connection with the pay phone eats up alot of the minutes.

NavyWife:  Most of the hotels will let you cancel 24 hrs before arrival, if not later, if you book directly with them (i.e., not going through a discount hotel group---they have their own policies).  Call the hotel directly and ask for the Navy Graduation rate.  Ones we recommend are:  Courtyard, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express.  And Navy Lodge, IF your have a sailor flying out, not staying in GL for A School (chance then of your sailor not being allowed to visit you in your room at Navy Lodge).

Kraftingirl: Check out Southwest Airlines....no change fee if plans change.  2 bags check for free.  Check flights into both Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental) or Chicago Midway (hour+ to GL).  See my post below for hotel info.

I would be careful booking with someone like Expedia....make sure you know their cancellation policy beforehand.  We have had ladies on here in the past, desperately trying to "sell" their room to someone, because they booked with a discount service that offered no refund.  So know their policies first!

NavyWife We made a reservation at the Residence Inn Marriott in Waukegan. They have a no fee cancellation unless you do it within 24 hours of your scheduled date.
Comment by NavyWife on January 31, 2015 at 1:35pm
Does anyone know which or any of the hotels offer a refund for canceling? My husband told me that it's possible he will get pushed back a week for missing training after recovering from dental work, I haven't heard anything more on it and want to book our hotel before the all fill up but am afraid of booking and then him be held back and be out the money

I got a phone call last weekend but nothing this weekend, he didn't tell me in the call nor did anyone else tell me that I needed to send phone cards, we were told he'd be provided them..
