N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I have my phone with me 24/7 an so does his girlfriend.

Catsmom, the phone calls can come earlier than that too though. The other day mine called at 7:25 central, he had a minute after he did what he needed and they told him he had 5 minutes and could call someone if he wanted to. Just Fyi (=

mygemforever:  When my son called when at Bootcamp with his phone card, it came through as" pay phone" with the 847 number (on my home phone).  He was always able to reach me on my home phone (called mainly on Saturdays)....I would imagine on the cells, it just comes up with the number?

Good Morning All !  Have a great weekend!

To CatMom509.  Thanks for the heads up on possible phone calls this weekend.

Comment by CatMom509 on January 31, 2015 at 5:05am

Hey everyone, I want to give you a "HEADS UP" to be prepared to receive calls from your SRs this weekend!  The call will show up as "847",  "Waukegan, IL", "Pay Phone", or "Government" or anything else that may be unfamiliar.  If it is a sales call, just politely tell them "No, thank you."  Please also let your family members know about this too~~

During this time in Boot Camp, please keep your cell phones charged, ready, and with you all the time---upstairs, downstairs, out in the backyard, in the bathroom, out to get the mail, of course, out on errands.  If you are going to a loud restaurant or a movie theater, remember to put it on "vibrate" and put in your pocket or some place you can feel it.  They can call during the week or weekend, so just be prepared:  6:00 am - 6:00 pm (Pacific/West Coast); 7:00 am - 7:00 pm (Mountain time); 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (Central/Great Lakes time); 9:00 am - 9:00 pm (Eastern Coast).

Diannep, it indicated that it was from a New York phone no. Just a question, when you use a phone card will it show other area codes?
Comment by diannep on January 31, 2015 at 1:11am

Just a heads up that if they make a supervised call, which us for specific info, they are not allowed to leave a message.  If they make a division/personal call, they can leave a message.  I got a "need info" call but missed it when my son was there.  No message, of course---supervised call.  Freaked out when I googled the number and it was the medical facility there.  He didn't call again for 10 more days.  Turned out they had a question about something on his medical record, but resolved it without me being involved.  Wheeew.....so try and have that phone with you at ALL TIMES because it doesn't take long to miss a call.  I was in a gym class and didn't hear my phone.

Mamabear:  PIR is over at 10:30 and they will clear the Hall by about 10:45.  They then return to their ships and so I wouldn't plan to be off base until about 11 or 11:30.  Just depends.  My son took about 25 min when he returned to his ship, but not sure if all take that long.

Comment by diannep on January 31, 2015 at 1:05am

845 is  NY area code.  Not likely it was from your SR.  HOWEVER, we suggest that you all answer ALL phone calls when you have someone at Bootcamp because occasionally a call may come in from an area code other than 847.
