Hey all. We are getting close now to beginning this Navy life. Our son leaves next week for BC! He and I were discussing what I should bring to PIR for him. I think I've read somewhere that he can begin to wear his own underwear? What about his own running shoes? I've also read about mom's bringing their Sailor's computer. Will he be allowed to have that at GC? I appreciate any help and apologize if this is repetative but I couldn't find this specific info.

vrybzymom... I rented a little mother in law cottage. 9 min from base. my son hung out there a lot and brought a friend who's family couldn't come. Hd BBQ in the little yard. Graduation was Wonderful. very moving. I posted where to call for the cottage in the discussions above. Click view all. My son took me all over the place. I spent a week there then took him home with me. Ceremony is outside and certain times of the year can be quite warm. Mine's was in August.

It was a great weekend for us. We stayed at the villas on base and got to spend a lot of time with our sailors friends. The ceremony was low key but nice.

Oh man. pretty big storm and cold over there. I got about an inch of snow last night. All last week it was in the 70's here in Colorado!! unseasonably warm.

The temp is 9 but with the winds, the  wind chill is -18 degrees below zero Lol.

Comment by William in Nashua on January 31, 2015 at 11:12am

It's 9 degrees out this morning too but this is the clothing I use for plowing on the tractor,  it is USAF surplus "extreme cold weather" clothing

I have wool glove liners inside the mittens and wear a balaklava to cover my face/head and a wool cap plus the hood.  For pants when it gets this cold I wear bib type ski pants coveralls and thermal long johns.   The boots are the "mickey mouse boots" artic boots that are better for cold and also wet days.

Wow William - that is a lot of snow!  I can't even begin to imagine.....It's a wonder you didn't freeze while plowing (or perhaps you did)!

It was enough for me last week in NY with a dusting of snow and 27*......Like NancyJo said, be careful my friend.
