USS Bataan LHD-5

Group for family members of Sailors who are on the USS Bataan (LHD-5)

Members: 144

I decided to start this group to see who else may have a Sailor on this ship; or heading to this ship.

Granted, we may be a bit limited to what we can discuss openly online, but if nothing else, may be a good way to connect and network off-line as well.

Make sure to not disclose advance ship movements or other OPSEC issues.

My son is an FC2 on this ship.

Son has been in for four years and is leaving. It can be lonely for a sailor without his family surrounding him. Does he have a car?

So true...taxes was the main reason for the move...I know he misses it, and we miss having the house to stay in when we visit NYC, but like you said, it's changed a lot.

We are on Spruce Lane. The neighborhood has changed over the years. We are considering going south.

Not only do the sailors have to be aware of less than honest sales for cars, the repair shops are worse! And, what is so sad, most of the repair shops for cars are owned by  retired military or active military. They are not honorable and don't guarantee their work. We got ripped off by one (we had lent my son my car) big time. Car has never been the same since. I think they did shoddy work and wanted to make sure my son would have to keep coming back. It was owned by a wife and husband (military).

We live about 5 hours from Norfolk so after they returned from deployment, he came home a bought a car from a local dealer. I know how those dealers near military installations try and rip these young sailors off! It's a shame! They take advantage of their youth and desperation!

I think he has but will ask to make sure.

Oh, SusanG I know you are so proud! I'm proud for him too!
Has he applied for base housing or PPV? I'd hate to see him have to pay for an apartment if there is a less expensive solution.
