OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Got a call from my son about an hour ago. Ship 14 Div 111. We talked for about 30 minutes. It came up as Pay phone on caller ID. It was very emotional for everyone! He is doing well and happy but stressed. Some in his division are getting in trouble for talking a lot and he is afraid it will affect him. He said about 7 recruits have been dropped back already.  He is a stick for now. They liked his marching abilities he said. He received 2 letters from us so far and will be able to write tomorrow. Will be mailed on Monday. They will have their first inspection and test this week. Did very well on his PT baseline test passing all. Only wanted to hear about what was going on at home. He said to write as often as possible. It was so hard to say goodbye!

What kind of phone cards do I buy? And where do I get them? Can I get them at Walmart?

I just got a call my from SR. He sounded really good! He said " BC was not  as what he was expecting!" Told him not to be too confident! I am glad he is fine and doing well. It was an 18 minutes call. We talked about what they have been doing at BC. But towards the end of the conversation when we were saying our goodbye & love you, he began to be emotional! He cried saying he misses us so much! But I had to stay strong for him. Reminded him that in 6 weeks we will be seeing him and we will use all the time we got to be with him. I still spoke to him until he got his composure back, after a minute he was okay. I kept on saying that we are proud of him. Told him to expect lots of letters - he received my 1st letter- which will help him fight the feeling of  missing home. I told him that I am mailing letters almost everyday. This way he knows what's going on here with us and that he is informed that way he won't feel homesick.I had to make sure he was fine before we put down the phone! He was! I ams happy though coz I know he is in good hands in the NAVY and that they will take care of him!
