Happy birthday (Friday) to my sailor!  Here's a picture of her in her first dress uniform:

britefuture & Sierrascrapper, thanks for your words of support.  It really does help to not feel alone in this stage of parenting!  I will definitely try to capture your son playing, but can't promise much -- my kids say my photography skills are pretty lame!  But I can guarantee we'll enjoy their music.

Have also been enjoying reading everyone's news and photos recently -- have gone on a few vicarious vacations with you all, celebrated passings and graduations, and worried about those not doing so well.  We have substantial snow around us and 4 ceilings that will need to be replaced in the spring (we're outside of Boston).  As daunting as it's been recently, I know it could be much worse.  And so it goes ... !!

Enjoy the trip Joniana and have confidence that your Nuke will definitely make it there!  These Nukes are amazing in resilience and determination.  If you happen to take any pics or video, I would love if you could maybe pretty please snap a pic of my son.  He plays the clarinet and last name starts with a P. Enjoy this special feature that they have added for this graduation.  I think it's VERY exciting!  They all have been working very hard together to make it a success.  There is even a Master Chief and Lieutenant in the ensemble.

Okay, so now his choice is clear lol. Thanks for the article Tom, I'll share it with my favorite Sailor next week. William, what can I say? You don't sugar coat.

Joniana- My son also found PS to be a challenge. I had many sleepless nights waiting for test results. He also would say, "Mom, it's okay, I know what I have to do". He had some discouraging moments but had a good group of, "Buddies" that he hung around with. A few went with him to BS for Proto, which also helped. They made sure that they all went off base when they could, just to get away from, "it". Many games of glow in the dark frisbee too, lol. Btw, Proto wasn't a picec -of-cake for him. However, in his words, PS was the biggest academic challenge of his life, so far.  Proto was a mix match of academia, schedules and time management. Good luck to your Sailor and to you as well.

Thank you. She has a floor length sequined gown that is very elegant. Think Princess Elsa's dress in Frozen. I think it might be a little flashy, but you wouldn't describe it as a sexy little number. (I think I know what you mean!) I hope that would be appropriate.

Along For The Ride, I have been to a Navy Ball. The gowns run the gamete but a prom dress is absolutely an option. When I say run the gamete, I mean it! The bottom line is that the young lady is a compliment to her sharply dressed date. The Navy Ball is not the place to wear a sexy little number. Don't get me wrong, there's a ton of it, but these young girls should save those dresses for the club. Classy always wins.

William....; ) Yes, they are!

Maybe some nuke moms have this information, or do we have some nuke wives and girlfriends here? Does anyone know if a prom dress would be out of place at the Navy Ball in Goose Creek in April? My daughter would like to know. I had read some advice online that said it was not recommended because it would look too young. But she IS young.

Well stated, William!
