While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I got a super sweet letter today. He said he's frustrated that he hasn't been able to call yet. Anyone know what day to expect 3 week calls? I'm hoping for birthday calls this weekend!

One of the moms in a past PIR group recommended Wildfire in Lincolnshire, it's a steak place about 15-20 minutes south of Great Lakes. Here's the link:

Comment by Forever proud on February 26, 2015 at 10:48am: tori's mom - I encourage families whose sailors will be staying in Great Lakes for A school to consider having that big dinner night on Saturday. That way, the folks that are leaving for A School elsewhere early Saturday morning will have more of a chance to get a reservation where they want on Friday.
We ate at Lovell's on Saturday night and it was not very crowded at all. It was lovely!

tori's mom: There are plenty of restaurants in the area so I don't feel you will have a problem. If you are looking for a fancier (and pricier!) place to take your sailor, then reservations would be advisable (Lovells is a place that is very nice to the sailors, good food---I believe your sailor eats for free....owned by the astronaut, Jim Lovell). I would research online now so you have an idea of where you may want to go. You could even call the restaurants you are interested in and get some advice. They are used to having newly graduated sailors in their area pretty much every week....so would have info for you.

FTLW: I too have heard different stories on the pay during Bootcamp. I had heard all are paid at E-1 rates no matter what they entered as, but receive the extra pay post-Bootcamp. I will check into it and post if I get more info!
