The only way to access an LES is through the myPay website.

Personnel may access this site by using their CAC and a CAC reader (USB). CAC is the Common Access Card (think ID but it is much more than that).

OR the site may be accessed with a Username and Password. Which is how I accessed it while my hubby was deployed so I could manage his pay. Their W-2's are on their etc.

Personnel should not give out a Username/Password to anyone unless absolutely necessary...it's a secure site.

myPay is provided through DFAS - Defense Financial Accounting Services for all DoD personnel.

Here is the link to myPay:

Here is a link to a doc on how to read an LES:

The reason we aren't sure is because of all the conflicting info out there and no official doc for it (if it is different for boots)

The consensus (even from navy personnel) is that the Recruits are not actually Sailors yet and so treated as an E-1 in every way.

One of the other reasons is that there is a distinction in pay for those with less than four months of active duty service (it does say E-1's though and so more confusing if you entered at a higher pay grade)

An E-1 with less than four months of active duty service get paid $1430.40 per month. So split between the two pay periods you will see $715.20 for BASIC PAY.

An E-1 with over four months of active duty service receives $1546.80 per month.

The Pay charts show the pay but the actual LES- Leave and Earning Statement is the proof in the puddin'. :-)

Not really sure if it is E-1 pay and then retroactively paid or E-2/E-3 pay grade (if they entered that way).

I cannot find an official BUPERS doc on it  and everywhere you look on the net for answers has conflicting info. The only way we could figure it out would be to have to Sailors and several of their LES' to compare. :-)

Spouses will get BAH from Day 1 (though it may or may not show up in the first pay) and then Family Separation pay after their spouse has been active for 30 days.

Montana he gave me the info in his letter. everyone's check I'd different. I know I got bah.
Comment by Montana on February 27, 2015 at 5:02pm
@Navywife_nuke so is there a way for me to have access to the paystubs? And so we did get BAH when we got paid the other day? Lol cause the only thing I know is what the bank account says.
Comment by Navywife_Nuke on February 27, 2015 at 4:49pm
I'm positive. when we did the financial check sheet thing before he left, that was also the amount they used to figure out if we would be okay or not. My husband has me have access to his paystub as well. It was bah and 1805 for e3 pay. I know that they get paid e3 but get called e1 while they are there. His contract he sent back that he signed at rtc says pay rate e3 as well.
Comment by Montana on February 27, 2015 at 4:43pm
I can't say for certain! That's just the impression I was under.
Comment by Samantha on February 27, 2015 at 4:41pm
