Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

CarolinaRose, see Arrival and What Happens at the RTC. The timeline she gave may be right on or it could be off. "The box" will arrive in a few days; The Form Letter will arrive an average of 10 days after arrival; a "real letter" arrives sometime in the week after the second Sunday (so in the third week); and that "call in about 3 weeks" could be before or after that depending on her RDC. That is great that you got a few words in, some aren't able to. She's on her way to becoming a US Navy Sailor.

Just received my phone call. She also confirmed that the phone was coming home in the box. She got to tell me 4 things. That she had arrived safely, That I would be receiving the Box in about a week, That I would be receiving a phone call in about 3 weeks, That I would be receiving a letter in about 3 weeks. I was able to tell her I loved her and that she was ready and strong and that she could do this.

You will receive the cell phone in "the box" in a few days. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC. A recruit was recently separated and fined for keeping her cell phone. NO, they do NOT keep their cell phones.

My daughter left for Great Lakes boot camp today. am waiting my phone call. I was told by a mom at MEPs today that they have done away with the phone banks and now the recruits do not send their phones home in the box but keep them in GL. is this true?

Comment by lemonelephant on March 1, 2015 at 7:15pm

azmom, It all depends on how many arrive and if the divisions from the week before have been filled or not. You will just have to wait on The Form Letter to know for sure.

What is the likely hood of being in a push division?  My daughter leaves for boot camp on a Tuesday.  How often does this happen?

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating and I will comment back on your My Page. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

Hi All!

My Hubby is leaving for BC at Great Lakes in exactly a month, March 26, 2015!!! I've been totally calmed 'til TODAY! Not sure which worries us most; if the harsh exercises or the harsher weather (Never seen snow, never been below 60* temps...) We're working hard on exercising and eating clean. Can't deny I'm mega excited to start this journey.
Be safe, stay warm!

Hi Everyone,

I'm a N4M veteran mom on the PIR groups!  One of the mom's SR son wanted everyone's future SR to prepare themselves physically for the Physical Fitness Assessments (PFA) that they will be required to pass to become a United States Navy Sailor.  They should be practicing their push ups, sit ups, and running according to the following requirements for males, females, and their age ranges.

https://www.navycs.com/navy-fitness-assessment.html

Also, the air is drier in Great Lakes, so be aware~~
