Hello. So as of yesterday my boyfriend has sworn into the Navy. He will be leaving for Boot May 5th. When he started the process to joining the Navy we discussed getting married before he leaves. We have been together 7 years and know we want to get married. We are just concerned if we need to marry before so that I will be financially okay while he is gone. Would he be able to help with paying the bills when he is gone, or will I have to be his wife in order for us to be able to pay the bills? I just don't want us to rush into a wedding when we could relax and plan longer. Any thoughts or information I can look into about this?

Thanks in advance!

We discussed it more this morning. He has to report to his recruiter tomorrow for a follow up meeting after swearing in. So I will be going in with him so we can talk marriage. I am thankful for my mother and his who are both ready at a moments notice to do what they can to give us what want. I know we will probably have to just wait for the big wedding, but that's okay. The size doesn't matter to us. We are just wanting to make sure we are guaranteed to stay together. His concern is also me being able to take care of things financially with little stress. So we know tomorrow we are going to tell the recruiter we want to get married and how do we proceed.

We talked with the recruiter this morning. He said that he wouldn't see why it would delay his ship date. He is going to pull the paperwork and told us to just let him know when we decide to get married. So now it's up to us to decide when to get married. It is comforting to know this shouldn't cause him any issues. Now time for us to set a date.

Congrats!

Thank you! Now it's up to my recruit to officially ask the question. I told him if I can I want him to go about this the right way even if I have already agreed to doing a marriage this fast.

I personally say get married before. My husband left for bootcamp Dec. 3rd, graduated Jan. 30th and we got married the 6th of February. Our BHA has not started yet so we've been paying rent out of pocket. So fianaclly and to just make sure everything is planning out how you want it to, get married before. My husband and I had a very small ceremony in South Carolina where he's going to A school and the navy put us right into a house. If We would of known it'd be easier to get married before we wish we would have, finical wise with the BHA. Our process of getting legally married and having the navy involved was easy, some say it's difficult and some say it's easy after they graduate bootcamp, just depending on where the A school is I suppose.

Also congrats! I wish you the best of luck:) the married life is really amazing!

Thank you!
