My boy leaves in just a few short days. He's not a boy, of course, he's a grown man setting off to a wonderful adventure and future.  But when I see him, even though he towers over me, he's still that little fella playing Legos.  I am proud as can be of this young man!  I wish the mom-tears would go away, I want him to see the admiration & pride, not these silly tears.  Farewell Party is tomorrow and then the final countdown!

Anyone else have theirs heading out next week?

Hi drmom!  It's a new feeling, to not be able to touch base with them and know what's going on, are they feeling ok after all of the shots, what's the food like, how's your stomach, how was swimming with the masses, lol.

I am full of questions for him and I can't wait to hear from him!

How tall is your son!!?? I hope he listened to you as well, but know that they help them out. My son said that like 45% of new recruits don't know how to swim.  I wish we could all meet for coffee and chatter about our kids.....  mine is older, so I worry a bit less than mom's with 18 year olds, but I still worry and wonder what they are doing.

But mostly I'm excited for them that they get to have opportunities they may never have seen! We watched a YouTube video last night about a submarine surfacing in Antarctica......man, what an incredible experience that would be. And WHY would you intentionally choose to live in a little bunk under the sea!!??  Lol- so many questions

Its so good to hear all the moms and know your worries are warranted. My son is 21, a great swimmer and was a former track star but I still worry. Your son's height and weight is a factor but he will make it through. It reminded me if when I chose to go down a slide with my son but it was very fast so when I hit the water, I panicked before beginning to swim but eventually I did...only to find out when I was getting out I had swam the wring way stopping all divers and all the lifeguards were waving flags and blowing whistles to get my attention. When I tell you I heard none of it and was only focused on getting to land! Lol but boy was I super tired when I made it out. I figured you guys could use this laugh. Imagine an over 40 mom panicking then swimming the wrong way! Its ok to laugh at me.

LOL!  Laughing WITH you!  I keep getting all veclempt thinking of funny stories like that- when you look back, it really is the GOOD stuff that families (be it 2 of you or 12 of you) are made of.

We will always be the goofy moms I guess :)

My daughter is leaving Tuesday also. Good to know I am not the only struggling.

Check your My Page.

No, we are all doing the same thing.  Hang in there!

It's hard. It's going to be a weird week!

Party Day was yesterday.  It was so wonderful to see friends and family and hear all the good thoughts and words of encouragement.  It went great and kid was happy, what more could you ask for?

I only cried once and it was BEFORE the party when it was just me & the husband.

AFTER everyone left, Kid asked for a ride to the recruiter's office tomorrow for the official drop off.  I wanted to barf.  I thought his dad was handling this part- ugh.  Kid was all, talking me into it...... Yeah, that'll be cool mom, you and Grammy can meet my recruiter and ----- I have no idea what he said after that, I didn't want to be that weepy mom at the station.  But I smiled and agreed and I will do my best to stuff it down and be tough tomorrow.

Grateful to have you other moms going along with me this week!

I am so glad that you had a good day with your son yesterday!  I am sure that you did want to barf with the idea of taking him tomorrow.  You can do it!  Just remember you can always run home and jump on here because we will be right there with you.

My son is downplaying it and decided that he wanted his friend to take him.  I am not sure if that was for his sake or mine.  Just keep telling myself one day at a time.

I was at the grocery store a bit ago when I saw all of the Easter candy, and of course a flood of wonderful memories along with a flood of tears came...right there in the middle of the candy aisle.  I did buy him a few pieces to enjoy tonight.

Try to get some sleep tonight, and we will all touch base tomorrow

Thank you Amy, I really needed that.  You have a good day tomorrow too!

:l

Amy......how are you?

sent you a message...How are you doing?
