Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Tonight is my son's last night at home before leaving for GL....I'm doing pretty good, Lol! We drop him off at the recruiter's office tomorrow afternoon and we will see him off Monday at MEPS. I keep reading over the list of things to do a month prior to your recruit leaving, I think we got it, I think! Any last minute advice?

Hi Puddles9296, it's not just you. My daughter also began to separate herself from me (us, but really me) prior to leaving for bc. I think it was her way to focus and try to prepare for such a huge step in life. We're very close so it cut like a knife but I was finally able to see what she was doing. Though we were able to see her off at the airport we allowed her boyfriend to get the pass to take her through security and to the gate. He's a Marine and his support was really important since he'd been through bc last year. Hardest thing in the world for me to let someone else see her walk on that plane, but it was the right thing to do. She'd made a commitment to her future and she didn't need her mommy holding her hand up to the last minute, LOL. These kids of ours! - God bless them.

puddles9296 - I will keep you in my prayers!

I think staying very busy with work and house stuff (which odd for me) has helped me a good deal (despite that much of my at-home busyness has to do with washing all my recruit son's laundry that he left all.over.his.room; maybe the Navy will cure the slob in him? lol).

Our son sort of physically and mentally separated from us before he left. He hung out a lot with his friends, didn't want to be home (and when he was, he was online ... with his friends; ugh).

We said "goodbye" in the parking lot of the Hilton, for Pete's sake! He didn't even want us to walk him in. Just shook hands with  his brother, hugged his father, hugged me briefly and bam - he was gone.  I was goofy and yelled goodbye, goodbye! to embarrass him. ;-)  Our whole drop-off took maybe 3 minutes, max. It was weirdly fast.

Is Sarge's Meet and Greet Event out there to sign up for yet on May 7?

lomom, yes, the info on the rolled up pants is in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

I got my son's box today too via fedex, lomom. I burst into tears at the sight of it! His jeans were rolled up also. I called his recruiter today and he informed me that my SR is in a 900 division! So excited and so proud! ♡♡♡♡

Comment by lomom on March 27, 2015 at 2:29pm

:-)  "The Box" arrived today (FedEx). Had to laugh - his pants were still rolled up at the cuffs (I read somewhere, probably somewhere here, that's from not having time to unroll them after being fitted for boots).
