Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Good morning all!  It's been two weeks since my SR left.  I have his box and his form letter, so I am feeling pretty happy, which is a far cry from how I felt two weeks ago.  I am so thankful that I have had all of you to help get through the past few weeks.  So thank you, thank you, thank you!

Last week I was feeling pretty mopey and was worrying about the same things all of you are worrying about..Is he sleeping? eating? Is he warn out? Is he cold?  All of this while sitting at my comfortable table, sipping coffee...That is when I came up with an idea.  I decided to get off my rear and spend this "bootcamp" time doing my own bootcamp.

 It has been only a week, but I can honestly say that it has been nice to have something to center some of that "feel sorry for myself" energy on.  Which leads me to...........

I HAVE A CHALLENGE FOR YOU...THE BOOTCAMP MOM CHALLENGE.

So if you are interested this is my thought.  Find something that is tough for you whether it be something mentally or physically challenging.  It doesn't matter what it is...maybe working out, changing eating habits, cleaning the garage, less smoking, drinking more water.  Find something that you can throw yourself into for the weeks ahead while you are waiting for PIR.  You are welcome to share it, or keep it to yourself.  

Here are the Pro's...It keeps your mind occupied, you are challenging yourself, you have something to write about to your SR, you have something you can share with your SR when you see him/her.

Now for the CONS....Ummmm, I can't think of any.

So think about it...How about you come and join me on this journey...

BTW...My challenge is to drink a gallon of water a day, and I have a Cardio, weightlifting plan that is mapped all the way out until I leave for PIR.

I am in!  

Goal= -10 # by PIR......  We are cutting back sugar and bread.  Bread, bread, oh how I love thee, bread!  (And it shows- lol)    I'm determined!!!

yessssssssssssssss bread is the enemy, however I love it. LOL... But I have cut down on it alot but would love not to have it at all. (in a perfect world).  But still a work in progress for me. :-)

I like this challlenge.  My SR departs May 5th for GL and I'm excited and nervous at the same time.  My SR and I have been working out together until her departure, so this will be my challenge once she leaves.  I also enrolled in school to pass the time.  The working out will be a challenge only for the simple fact that my SR will be gone and I won't have that "buddy system" going anymore.  But I like the idea you proposed to challenge during the weeks she will be gone.  I'm in.  Thanks for sharing.

mztessa1,  we are right here beside you!  Great job on preparing ahead of time.  I wish I would have.  Your SR will always be your buddy, but maybe we can fill in while she is at camp.

Great idea! I was planning on doing my own mini boot camp to help me get in shape. Thanks for sharing your idea! Several of my friends did 2 weeks of drinking a gallon of water. Let me tell you, the only way I got through it was encouragement. I would see a text from one saying how much she drank so far and that would help me drink some more...or someone would just text saying we can do it. So, we all need some encouragement whether it's on here or people at home. Good luck to us all!

Mattsmom,  So glad you are onboard (no pun intended).  Its tough being us right now, and anything that can help us along.  I just knew I needed to put all that energy feeling sorry for myself into something positive.

So, I guess I just have one thing to say (maybe two)...Get to working, cause we can do this!!! and DID YOU DRINK YOUR WATER YET? ;-)

I'm doing the same thing! Helps keep my mind off things and the endorphins seem to be helping. Since he really started training hard last year, my SR has really gotten me motivated to quit making excuses/being lazy and get my butt in shape!

I love love love FitnessBlender.com. They have hundreds of free workout videos and a few 4- and 8-week paid programs that are less than $10. I'm doing Booty Boot Camp right now and it's kicking my butt!!

Great Job sailormaid!  I agree with the endorphin thing.  My mind seems clearer since I started increasing the workouts.

Aimee, I knew you would be right be side me!  We can do this.  We too love bread...My husband, Mr Skinny can eat it all day long..I have been stepping away.  I have discovered some really yummy, fun new things to eat in the past few weeks that are super low in calorie.  If you are interested I will share.

I would love for you to send some recipes, I'm in a rut!!

We did a grilled chicken salad with mandarins and craisins tonight- I bought yogurt for dessert........note to self: carb.free yogurt is gross!  LOL. :p 

Hello ladies!

This discussion caught my eye because I did the same thing last year when my daughter was in boot camp. I signed up at the local gym and made myself go! My motivation to do it was to be in solidarity with my daughter because I knew that working out would be a challenge for me but nothing compared to the challenges that she would be facing, both mentally and physically. I kid you not, sometimes I'd be busting my butt on the treadmill, thinking of her, with tears streaming down my face!! Good thing i could just wipe them away with the sweat and people around me didn't notice.  lol!! Each time I thought about quitting...i kept reminding myself if my daughter could do it, i could do it too. Every step I took, every weight i lifted, every abdominal crunch i pushed thru, every row on the row machine...you name it, I did it with my daughter on my mind! Gosh, if that didn't encourage me, I don't know what could have. I also met some great ladies and I shared with them that my daughter was in boot camp and they also became a great support system for me! I was feeling great and would look forward to my time at the gym. Even after my daughter's PIR, I kept going and did my first 5K! Not only was the challenge an outlet for me to channel my saddness and a means to keep my mind busy but the reward of feeling healthier was priceless! My daugther inspired me to do something better for myself!!

Great job ladies...you can do this!! Just to think of how our children can be an inspiration to all of us! They are so brave and courageous! So when you think that you can't quit smoking, or want to give in to the sugar craving, or are tempted by that warm delicious bread...just stop for a moment and close your eyes and hear your child's voice cheering you on!
