My son is currently at BC with PIR date 4/24/2015.  He told us that he has a current SR whose family cannot make it for PIR and he would like to take him with us on liberty that day.  He wants him to be able to leave the RTC and come have a meal with us, but then he wants to be able to relax at the hotel with just family.  We are totally cool with taking another sailor with us.  Are we able to do this?  Would we be able to take him for just part of the afternoon or is it an all or nothing thing?  Is there anything we need to do (like paperwork or anything) to make this happen?

Yes, you are able to do that and there is no paperwork involved. He would just leave with you and your Sailor. See the info on that in PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.

Yes, you could take him for just part of the day, but he must have a Liberty Buddy to leave the RTC, which would be you if you take him from the RTC, but then he would be stuck at the RTC the rest of the day if you drop him back off at the RTC since others without family will have already gone off on Liberty together. You may want to think about including him for the whole time of Liberty on Friday or taking two Sailors without family so that they then could spend the rest of the Liberty time together and head back to the RTC together as Liberty Buddies before Liberty expires that evening.

If you read lemonelephant's link to PIR Day you will see that there are different liberty schedules for Sailors staying at Great Lakes for A school and those flying out on Saturday for their schooling. Unless both your Sailor and his buddy are on the same schedule there will be hours of sitting around waiting for someone's liberty to begin. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks lemonelephant and CryptoDad.  I will mention both of these things to him and we'll go from there.  My son is going to A school in Pensacola.  I don't know about his buddy, but that is something to consider. I told him we were cool with whatever he wanted to do.  I would feel bad sending his friend back early, but I also understand my son wanting a little private time with family
