COTwin, I am so proud of you but I can't say surprised. You have been impressing since day 1. From what I can tell, any business will be glad to have you.

My son never told me anything about this stuff. Asking him for info is like pulling teeth. If you people weren't here, I would know nothing. Oral boards? 100% test? What are those? Being a successful nuke doesn't automatically translate into being a great communicator with the home folks. I think they save it for work. The same is true now that he's on a ship. <sigh>

Newbie, hope you get to see your son. 4th of July sounds like a good time.

Cerise congratulations to your son on getting a Virginia class boat, the tip of the spear.  Now they expect him to ace the oral boards so STUDY STUDY STUDY Lol.   CO-Twin your son will pass his oral exams too and those croissants sure look delicious.  1proudmama they jam them in together at all hours he will do fine.

When my son took his oral boards he called me right after getting off four days of  night shift at the reactor that ended at 7am and he said his oral boards were tomorrow at noon.  Lol.  Talk about sleep deprivation.  Right in the middle of a sleep cycle.  His was 3-1/2 hours long he said they spent an extra hour asking arcane questions trying to find something he did not know or had not studied, and gave up after an extra hour Lol.

CoTwin They all look great, but those croissants look heavenly.I hope they hire you, from head of the class, to head  chef, pretty impressive.

Newbie- I remember being down in charleston for July 4th and my son was in powerschool then. I believe they got long weekend. Had to go in and study some, and go home early and iron for inspection. I almost fell over when he said he that. The Navy has done what his mama could not.

J's/S'smom- Thank you for your quick response! It's good to know that there will be a few long weekends. I am secretly hoping for a four day Fourth of July weekend, but I will take whatever comes. Apparently, he will be starting Power School in May.

Had a 3 hour interview. Nice chef from The Yucatan. Right now they have no pastry chef and buy everything from elsewhere. He wants to bring me in and if it works out add on a pastry kitchen and I would become the Head Pastry Chef. Pretty neat if he is for real. The place is an awesome place. Part imported cheeses, part imported foodie stuff, plates, towels, tea, cookbooks etc... part bistro. It is huge and very busy. I found it hard to believe they are serving frozen pastries.

Hi everyone! I have a question...My sailor recently graduated A-School and is waiting patiently to start Power School. Does anyone recall their sailor getting a long weekend here or there during Power School? He did get a four day weekend liberty "break" back in February where he could leave (had to stay within liberty radius). Just wondering if there is a possibility this will happen again so I could plan a visit. I don't want to get my hopes up if it is highly unlikely. Thanks for your help!

1proudmama  -  No my son doesn't have a date.  He "thought" this week or next, so I have as much (um... as little) info as you do.

He got his ship assignment a week plus ago.  He was happy with his assignment.

Comment by 1proudmama/EM/USSLincoln/CVN72 on March 31, 2015 at 7:49pm

Cerise - He only told me his boards would probably happen this week or next. Does yours have an actual date. I almost don't want to know. I did tell him you better put me on speed dail when you get your ship assignment.

Another dog story. Her other favorite past time is to retrieve things. I was throwing freesbie one day and she gets distracted starts rolling around on ground. Then she picks up something and starts running towards me with something in her mouth. I look and realize it is a snake! I am petrified of snakes. I go running with her chasing me with dead snake in her mouth. My husband said I never ran so fast or screamed so loud And he never laughed so hard. Darn Labador Retrievers!

1proudmama/EM/S8G/1403   My son is in 1403 as well.  Does your son have his board scheduled?
