DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Here's what I got in today's mail. My SR took 2yrs of AP English out of the 4yrs in HS. I'm so proud of my SR!

We all understand, smcw!  I had both of my sons move out 2 weeks apart....my sailor son being the last to leave.  The first time I grocery shopped after that was very painful and I too had tears.  I did the same when shopping after my hubby died, though, so I think others there would understand that there are situations that make grocery shopping hard when loved ones are not there anymore!

Our thing was pop tarts. We don't generally eat junk food so when the cravings hit Patrick and I would stop for poptarts on the way home after school. Can't look down that aisle without tearing up. Which has to seem crazy to anyone watching!

It's normal to be missing your SRs, to cry at the drop--well, nothing even has to drop!--just thinking of them, at the grocery store when I saw the raspberries and blueberries that my Sailor daughter liked to get for her smoothies, just driving along, it is totally normal!  My hubby would hug me and tell me he missed her too....  It gets a little easier day by day.  I occupied my time and I had two other daughters to pay attention to. We coordinated sending out letters everyday, so my daughter would receive something from us each day.  (Hubby, daughter, me--youngest would include her letter with mine.)

Just know that the Navy is taking very good care of your SRs and they seriously want each and every one to succeed!!
