Got some great photos this week from my DS. He caught a back seat ride with a guy from VFA-22 on the Vinson. Great fun!

We just returned from Rhode Island and the graduation ceremony lasted no more than 30 minutes. It was easy to leave right after the ceremony as the classes are not that large and there isn't much traffic. The traffic to the base the evening before for Hi Moms is terrible. Leave an hour before the event starts.

ADVICE NEEDED!  My DS will be graduating from OCS next Friday (he just received his NAMI letter!! Woohoo!) Well, my youngest son is a senior in high school and will be in baseball playoffs that week/weekend.  I want to leave RI asap after graduation so that I can hopefully make his game on that Friday night (I wont have to wait on my DS as his wife will be with him).  What is the earliest you would recommend flying out of RI if graduation is at 9:00 am that Friday morning?

NavyBoys2x  you might try to see if there is a Blue Star mom group in your area.  The group in our area does lots of boxes for deployed soldiers/sailors.  As check facebook and see if there is a Navy for Mom's group in your area.  Here in Northern CA we are pretty active.

Great Facebook post today! The TR is on station and has taken the handoff from the Vinson. Vinson will be homeward bound soon.

kabar:

Here are some care package ideas that worked well for me:  Girl Scout cookies!!!  They travel really well and everybody loves them.  I sent a 10 lb box!  I wouldn't send anything in glass jars-my DIL sent something in a mason jar and it was smashed to bits when DS received it.  I used tins for packaging home made cookies.  They kept them fresh and protected them well.  Bar cookies travel well and oatmeal carmelitas happen to be his favorite so he got a lot of those. He really liked the junk food: flaming hot cheetos, jalapeno flavored chips, beef jerky, salmon jerky, pistachios.  I also tucked in Sports Illustrated, Popular Mechanics, Outside magazines.  He said that he really enjoyed the letters that I tucked into each package also. I tried to find funny cards and always wrote a nice long letter in each.  We must have LOs on passing carriers!

I will be preparing for Tiger Cruise and would love any pointers anyone can give me for that!

Are there organizations you can volunteer for in the community that assist military families or our troops. I am in the Pa., East side of state.
