PACT Moms

Let's chat about our wonderful sons and daughters who have chosen the PACT program.

Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

Thanks splash. did your daughter go to school in GL after boot camp? After school did she get leave to come home? How long before they know their orders?

Mommamac. My daughter is SPACT and during boot camp and after I also heard many negative things about being undesignated. I was extremely worried. So far it has been good. Had my daughter signed up for the job she thought she wanted she would have been miserable and stuck. She was interested in GM. After she got to her station in San Diego she watched someone doing this job and said she would have hated it. She has also decided that she does not want to be on a ship if at all possible and being PACT gives her a better chance of staing on land. She is assigned to the Amphib base Coronado and her job is consdered Sea duty even though she is on land. What I am trying to say is that so far...it has been good. She has many options available to her in the future.

Welcome to the new members of our group!! I totally understand the concerns about undesignated. I think Tha is why they changed the program to PACT. I read so much negative at first and then I connected with several that had very positive experiences. I also realized that just like any job, the atmosphere is set by the "boss" so you can have the best job in the world and be miserable. My son is also A PACT and got assigned to the AO's. He is a little bored right now but all of the AO's are bored as well. It is a slow time for them. My son has not mentioned being treated badly for being PACT like I read on some sites. I have done lots of praying and realize that my son is in Gods hands and that helps me. I am excited about what is in store for him.

Part of the stress is the unknown I know! Guess that's just something I will have to get used to. Thanks again!

thank-you, Michael's mom.  What I have read so far scares me to death. As parents we don't want our kids to be unhappy and he is feeling so proud of himself, I just don't want him to get depressed. All I can do is pray! Did you son go to school in GL after boot camp? If so how long did that last? Did he get to come home for Liberty for a while?

Thanks Michael's mom! and Michelle I am with you. My name is Michelle too. My son is ship 11 div 191. My son's letters and phone calls (2) seems positive. I am just worried after what I have read about being undesignated. Any helpful insight would be so helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for the birthday wishes!!! Yes, I am up late! My son has been home and we have been up packing all his "stuff" for deployment!! Oh my- I had no idea all that they need to buy for deployment. He said they have to plan and be ready in case there is water rationing. I learn something new every day!
