Anyone read this yet?  Been hearing good things about it.  Think I'll order it for myself for Mother's Day ;-)

Hi all - Can't believe it's Monday again!  Why oh why do the weekends wiz by so darn fast?!  Hope everyone had a good one!

Sailor called for Hubby's birthday yesterday but we were in the movie theater & missed the call :(  Thankfully he left a message & said he'd call back today ;-)

My sailor was one that rented an unfurnished apartment in Ballston Spa.  It worked out well for them - 3 of them - and they had some furniture that they were able to bring with them.  The complex was nice - lots of sailors and even though they have them sign a lease they don't hold them to it.  When they get their orders they allow them to break it.  Worked out well for them. Here's the link if anyone is interested: http://winnerscircleatsaratoga.com/

I'm thinking we should start a "Care Package" discussion.  That way everything will be in one place, easy to find.  Patti - do you care if I copy/paste your comment above?  There's also a "Care Package" group on here that has some good ideas.  I'll include that link too.

Joniana, my son and a buddy rented a fully furnished two bedroom house in Saratoga Springs when they moved there on December 1st. It is within walking distance of downtown where the shops and restaurants are located.  I think he said it was a little more expensive than the apartments they looked at but it was still within the housing allowance and they did not have to buy anything.  I finally get to see it next week!!  It will be a great Mother's Day present to see him for the weekend.

J's/S'smom and Mark, Thank you for your input. That helps a lot! Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I am out of town, visiting my family in CA, and didn't bring my laptop with me. My nephew had his Eagle Scout ceremony yesterday. It was a wonderful celebration. He's a great kid. A bit bittersweet, as I saw several aunts, uncles and cousins of the young man who died just the day before.

I think I will tell my sailor, but I think I'll heed your advice to wait until Friday. Unless I decide to travel to the funeral. Still weighing whether or not I can make that work. My heart and soul are weeping for my beloved cousins.

Tom & Joniana, My son is also headed up to Ballston Spa in mid-May.  I would like to pick your brain too for housing information.

Comment by Joniana (Helen) on May 3, 2015 at 8:46pm

Hello Tom, I seem to recall that you are in the rental business in Ballston Spa.  If that's correct, my son and several friends are looking for something mid-May.  I've put in a Friend request to you.  My thanks.

I like that J's/S'smom - I also like your advice for PacNWmom. :)

Hey Everyone! I'm fairly new here, and don't often comment, but follow along pretty consistently. I really appreciate all the help and support. Y'all are great!

My son has been at GC for about a month now. I just found out this morning that a cousin's son was killed in a car accident last night. He is not closely related to my son by blood, but his mom is one of my best friends (though we live 3000 miles apart) and we have visited them on many occasions. I know he won't get leave to attend the funeral (I read the "Emergency Messages Via Red Cross" page) but I'm wondering if I should tell him at all. My gut says yes. What do y'all think?

NonnaB - sounds like you are having a fabulous weekend! Enjoy your sailor and family especially those grandchildren!

PattiP - sounds like a good idea to send provisions to our sailors when out to sea. Anyone wish to Share their wisdom on shipping. Containers used, what service they found best most cost effecient for shipping. Most requested items. how long does it usually take to get to them etc. Thanks
