OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Recommendation for Graduation (Hotel and Eating)
My son will graduate on May 29th, 2015. He needs to be back on base 22:00. We will be flying in from out of town and would like to know good places to stay and a good place to eat.

Just returned from graduation. Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express-Libertyville. Very nice staff and they offer shuttle service to graduation leaving at 6:30 a.m.
After the graduation, we went over to the mall and Brandon got his cell phone. (All the sailors were there getting their phones). We ate at the Rain Forest.

I am headed for the May 29th graduation too. Does anyone know how much time we can spend with our granddaughter? We will be flying into Chicago Midway and could take the train to the graduation and return to Chicago after the day in Great Lakes. Has anyone done this?

There is no way that you can make it by train from Midway to Great Lakes in time for graduation. Unless your plane is arriving at 4 in the morning. The earliest train out of downtown Chicago leaves at 5:43am and arrives at Great Lakes at 6:39am. Seating for graduation opens at 7:00am.

Has anyone eaten at the Sam Adams Brew Club and Restaurant? Thinking of eating here after graduation, since daughter is staying at Great Lakes for A school and will need to check into her new berthing and won't have a lot of time to eat out somewhere the first day.

I've eaten there a few times. If it fits into your schedule to eat there, I'd highly recommend it! The restaurant has great views of the lake, good food, and is very reasonably priced. They have good service there as well. It's located on the main side of base, near the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites.

To be honest, I didn't know which base it was located, but good to know that it is right near her A School. I think I read in the Morale, Welfare, ? website that it was open to the public? or was that Port 'O Call?

DepthCharge4 would meet her Sailor where she tells them to meet her after she checks in and then she would ride with them to/through the gate and they can go to eat.
What is with you CryptoDad? It's not as hard as you are making it out to be and she will be walking the same distance that she would if they just picked her up and went away from the base to eat. Sailors and their families enter the main side every week--those with Sailors staying in GL as well as those who are flying out--and there are some who do choose to eat at Sam Adams Brew Club and Restaurant. Many Sailors and their families go over to that side for the larger NEX; we did that.

I was in Chicago last month to watch my sailor graduate from boot camp. I have a military ID so I got a great room on base for pretty cheap. There seemed to be hotels that were close by so I don't think you'll have trouble finding one.
Make sure you get to the ceremony early! We had a big group that got there late and almost didn't get a seat in front of my sailor's division. We sat upstairs but I thought the view was better up there. It made it easier to find my sailor within his division (they all look alike!). Also made it easier for him to spot us! :)
Graduation was done was around 11 AM and then my sailor's liberty started. We spent the whole day with him but had to have him back on base by 7:30 i believe. I wouldn't recommend going into Chicago since you'll most likely spend most of your time getting there and back with traffic.
My sailor's #1 request was steak after graduation so we went to Austin's Steakhouse in Libertyville, which had awesome food! Highly recommended!
My sailor flew out the next day around 1 PM but we were able to meet him at the airport around 4 AM, get family passes, and spend the morning with him. Was a great weekend! Enjoy it!
