OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Michelle:  Be sure to plan on celebrating his birthday after PIR....just like that was the actual day!  So, happiness and celebration, just a little delayed!

Remember, other hotels to consider that have better reviews (on this site too) are:

Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, and Residence Inn.  All close together and near Sarge's MeetandGreet.  They are in the Gurnee area.  4-5 miles from RTC (10 min drive).  Call directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.

Mamakweenb, name dropped, and a description of what your son is doing there. Sent a pseudo birthday card today to my son...so weird and hard wanting to acknowledge the day, not able to talk to him, not being able to really do anything, but think, remember, and cry a few tears. Hopefully this weekend he will be able to call, or fill out the form letter I sent along with a self addressed stamped envelope...trying to make this easy for him:-) blessings today!

Michelle0206- we are staying at the Days Inn in Great Lakes.  Only a two star hotel!  Oh well, we are not going on vacation.  My son is in 928.  Playing the trumpet!  Can't wait to see him!  He is loving boot camp!

Susud1700, we are staying at the Days inn in Libertyvill...I believe there is another in Great Lakes, unless they are one in the same??? I really do hope there will be more military families there. What division is your SR. in? Ours is 928. There are hundreds of kids graduating. It is amazing!!! And this is only one branch of the military! So proud of all these young people who have made a brave and wise choice for their futures.

Here are the reviews on Days Inn in Great Lakes....kind of mixed....we recommend that all research their desired hotels on TripAdvisor.com before booking just so you aware of the good, bad, and in between!
