Hi everyone. My son is on deployment. He is now an I.A. Independent Augmentee ( hope I spelled that correct). He was serving on The USS Gonzalez. Now he is on the USS Ponce.
Does anyone else have family on this ship?

Good morning, Yes, Christine my sailor was on hold in GL after A school. It i snot so unusual. She even said to me "Mom, if the taxpayers knew how much money was being wasted paying sailors to do nothing!"  But I don't think it ws for nothing. She learned patience , how to follow orders, how to work hard at whatever job you are given even if it is not an FC job, she learned leaderships skills. She worked in the office, she worked in the gym, she volunteered to work in the preschool on base. She did a lot of cleaning, watch and duty! She kept busy and eventually got to C School.

Fingers crossed!  I hope they are great orders.

Thanks Anti M...

He got a verbal this week that he is coming home June 1st.   No hard copies yet.  But I am hopeful.

I hope they straighten it out, billets come and go and they can't give him orders if it is all fluid.  The first of the month should see new billets, so he should hear better news then.

What I found odd is at A school graduation he chose his base/ship. He was not coming home but going to zvirginia for c school. A week later they call him in to say he is not going on aircraft carrier he chose but instead a cruiser. He waits another1 week to find out he can come home before going to Virginia. I had everything planned and he calls 2 days before to say he is not coming and that c school will now be in SD. But tthat he will able to come home now for 2 weeks sometime at end of May. They will have hardd copies jn a week. That has turned to 4 and still mothing. No one else in his class had orders changed after A school and have all lect GL. He is climbing the walls. The cruiser they moved him to was getting new equipment and tgey were moving the C school to SD. That makes total sense. But the ship then became one of the 2 cruisers going into modernization every 2 years that started this year. I read they are tryingvto devide whether to streamline the crew already on the cruiser. My guess this is why they do not know what to do with him. He is going nits. He has decided to go volunteer in A school to help new recruites. This way he stays up on what he just learned because who knows how long it will be or he.

Anyone have experience with this?

Perfectly normal.  Unfortunately, he is in the Hurry Up and Wait phase.

My son finished A school at the end of March.  Was supposed to go to C school in VA.  He was supposed to come home for 2 weeks before C school.  2 days before I expected to pick him up from the airport he called to say they changed his orders.  His hard copies have been torn up twice...he remains on hold since A school graduation and has been waiting 3 weeks for the latest hard copies.  A little frustrated to say the least. :(  Is this normal?
