TasiaBear - Mine just left too. Yours isn't in MRF at ACU1 by any chance, is he? I think an LCAC and an LCU also went from ACU1.
I have a friend who does handmade cards as part of Operation Write Home. I can get you info on that if you are interested.
Also, would the FRG for his ship accept you into the loop? Some are very good about that, even long distance.
If you are near a USO, they usually need volunteers. I love the USO, always have. One of the few charities I donate to when I can.
I have a blog post about command sponsorship, with an emphasis on Japan. Be sure to read the comments too, there is more detail from spouses who have gone through the process.
http://navyformoms.com/profiles/blogs/what-is-command-sponsorship
The Navy has different rules for dependents going overseas than the Army or AF. The sailor must be an E-4 or above to bring dependents, and must get command sponsorship for them in order to get the right visas, and to receive benefits such as housing. Also, if the sailor gets married on leave and then wants to being dependents, s/he has to have enough time left with the command, or be able to extend that tour.
For Japan specifically: right now, all the Navy bases have expanded housing so every accompanied married sailor lives in on base housing. Only the single E-5 and above get to rent off base. This changes, I lived off base there, but for the next few years, expect to be in a tower apartment. T
Hi Jenn_NicksWifey my hubby is stationed at NAB Coronado also and he just deployed .I know what you mean about all the extra time. :)
I'm in San Diego and my hubby is stationed at NAB Coronado. You can message me if you have any questions! Hubby just deployed, so I'm finding myself with extra time on my hands. :)
xoxo_iheartyou: There is always a chance to go overseas whether you have a dependent or not but no one in my husbands class went overseas with dependents. Technically he isn't married so his orders will not be accompanied, therefore you won't be going with him on the Navy's dime (unless I am wrong which someone can correct me). Overseas isn't always available though.
