towermom...My sailor only wants to do his 5 years and then join the civilian world in AC, I suggested he re-enlist for another round to gain more experience, whats your opinion on that?  Do you think he will be able to get a civilian AC position after his first 5 years?

Comment by BearsMom aka Amber on May 27, 2015 at 12:57pm

AZmom, my sailor just graduated from AC school on Friday, so I know a little about Pcola and what goes on there.  He reports to his duty station on Friday so that will be all new to me, but I'll answer what I can!

My sailor is in his 4th year and doing very well as an AC.  He loves it and will make a career out of it.  He has one year left and has already received great reviews!!

Good luck to your daughter.

She understands that.  She's working very hard and is getting it.

I'm going to be frank. If your daughter isn't good at the rate, she should probably switch now rat her than later. My husband is an AC and has been for a about 2 years. People get kicked out the Navy if they have trouble advancing once they get to a station. You have to advance to stay in the rate. You can't skip advancement test. I hear they are hard. But, if she's really putting EVERYTHING she has into it, studying, and hanging around the right people, then she should be fine.

My daughter has been in Pensacola since January 17.  She's in AC also.  She is not the biggest math brain around, but got through it.  She's failed a few of the tests, but they are so invested in them by the time they get so far that the instructors really help them out if they think you have what it takes.  Se has about 4 more weeks to go and is picking orders next week, I think.  Feel free to message me if you want more info!

My daughter just got to Pensacola last weekend.  Anyone in the group have a sailor in Air Traffic Controller school?  Just wondering what to expect.

Ok, ladies, I come 2 you again  w/ request: what is the closest, least expensive yet still kind of classy hotel near the base. Hubby & I planning to take our 29th wedding anniversary trip to Pensacola to hopefully see our sailor too. Our 19 yr old daughter will be coming too. It's been a tough year (w/ the cancer dx + flood in our house, etc,.) so I just want something nice & relaxing. It will be for next weekend, 5/29 - 5/31/15. Please help w/ my search for best $ air, hotel, rental car coming from Dallas, TX.

Well here I am! No knowing what to expect I hope to get a lot of good information here from seasoned moms. My daughter graduates in June and ships out July 14th for boot camp and then will go to Florida for air traffic school. Who can enlighten me lol and help me along?
