My sailor nephew now has a darling little "first mate", Killian arrived a couple weeks early, healthy and happy!  Mom is fine, and her mom is there to help.  Not Japan.  I will ask permission to post a pic.

My (ex)Japan sailor and his wife are beginning to talk babies.  They were fine with waiting for a few years, especially since she was a working model.  I hope they are successful when they do get started!

Most exciting thing to happen to me is the rain gutter out front came down.  Not sure why it just let go, but it made a huge mess.

Good morning, "Pan Moms"!

I don't have any Sailor stories, but I can share my humdinger of a weekend!   Started when I left work Friday, was in Wal-Mart picking up a few things, got a call from our daughter, she was clearly very upset and she said, "Mom, I have just had a wreck".  No Mom never ever want those calls.  She was shaken up but was alright.  I tried to calm her down, then asked how her vehicle was, and if it was driveable.  She didn't know, making a funny noise, and lots of green fluid on the ground.  I asked her if she had called her Dad.  Well, no he will be mad. I told her he would not be mad.  She wanted me to call him. He was in a meeting, but excused himself and called me back.  I was trying to get checked out so I told him I would call him right back.  I got home and went out to the shop to talk to our son, and told him we would probably have to to Starkville (2 hours away) and get his sister if Dad didn't think she could drive the vehicle home.  Got back in the house, someone was leaving a message on answering machine, and my cell started ringing.  Seems that after checking out and trying to call hubby back, I dropped my debit card the parking lot at Wal-Mart!!!!  Some nice person found it and turned it in to the service desk.  I headed back up there to get and while trying to explain why I had dropped it, I just had a "come apart"!  Daughter made it home fine, her AC doesn't work, but hubby and son thinks they can fix it.

Now on to Saturday....My daughter and I went to visit my Mom (84 years old), and while there, my Mom tells me that she has does something that she thinks will make me mad.  She got a call over 2 weeks ago from 2 ladies who tells her they are with Medicare and are going to send her a new Medicare card for a one time fee of $299.  They tell her they know where she banks, and asked her if she banked at this bank, and she tells them yes that is right.  They tell her to give them the next check number in her checkbook along with the routing and account number.  SHE DOES!    Y'all, this is the 3rd time she has done this!  I called a friend of mine who is the bank president and asked him what we could do since it was Saturday.  He told me that there was a branch office open and he called them and sent to me to get a print out of her account.  We caught it before they wiped her out! THANK THE LORD!  They froze her account and flagged it as victim of fraud.  Tuesday morning, Mom and I were at the bank getting a new checking acct.   This is an act of congress because they had to keep the old one open for her to receive her retirement and ss checks that will be in, and get all of her monthly drafts swapped over.  I spent over an hour getting that done.  I have told her that she had better never ever give any more banking info out to anyone, that this was the 3rd time and every time I got it changed before they clean her out, but we might not be so lucky the next time!  Hubby thinks they were waiting until the 1st of the month to hit her acct., so they could get all she had.  The lady at the bank said he was right, that is when they see these things happen!  She said she hoped there is a hotter place in hell for these people and I agree!

Then I get back to work and my hard drive is crashing!  I am still without all of my files, but hey, the internet works!

I hope all of you are doing okay, and that all is well!  I am trying to be positive and telling myself if this is the worst things that I am having to deal with, I am still blessed!  (I wasn't in that frame of mind Friday and Sat.)

TLynn, gorgeous pictures.

Maggs, poor Angel.  Thinking positive thoughts for your MRI and Angel.

Heading to sub base in Groton Ct., tomorrow.  Sons ceremony.  I promise to get a picture.  I forgot to take pictures of baby last weekend.

TLynn, he lives just north of NYC, across the Hudson from West Point Military Academy.  He meets some rude people.

We need more sailor stories on here.  Jump in new moms.

HI

Keep sharing stories Anti M. I am very interested in hearing more about schools in Japan. I do remember seeing a program on TV about the competition to get into a good high school. I meant studying very hard to pass the exams.

I did have an neighbor who also tutors in Japan. He still is living in Japan. Loves it.

Kim -pictures of the adorable baby! And how are you doing ? I'm confused - your son lives in an area that is anti military? I thought he was near a base.

We still have rain. And it really rained to day. With high winds. going to be like this for the next few days too. I know we will not have any drought problems here this summer adn fall. And already humid. We have to have the air on so we don't feel that damp feeling.

I have some fun news - my girlfriend JoEllen is going to be coming out in two weeks. She is checking on her mom who is recovering from a pacemaker being put in. But what I hear - her mom is doing great. SO she will be staying with me for a couple of nights - YIPPE - girl time !!!!

Nic's radio station is sponsoring another medium at one of our theatre's - sorry forgot the lady's name. I have asked him if there is a chance of him getting 3 tickets. Plus, I told him to tell his boss - there is a homemade cake in the deal.

the heard form sailor last night :). He is ok, still trying to get his place in order. But he is going to TN for classes. What classes? So I will be sending him his Great Aunt's and Uncles' phone number. Hopefully they can get together for lunch. AND he is putting in a request for a two week leave. Mayb - MAYBE he will get to visit this summer!!! Finally a chance he can meet his nephew. YES - I will let you all know.

Other gossip - I had a strange thing happen today. A man came to the door - saying he work for Pearson's ( plumbing, heating, etc) and that my husband Sam had called him. I stood at teh door and just shook my head no. I was holding teh dog and she was not barking - but she was not waging her tail. I never opened that outer door. He left. I called Pearson's adn they told me no - they did not send anyone. But I did have a new water heater installed and that does have to be inpected by City of Rockford. I stated ok - but he said he worked for Pearson's - he was not driving a company car/van and he had my hubby's name wrong and I know my hubby did not call. I was told to call the city of Rockford - so far no reply. Will keep you all posted about this soap opera.

Need to get all - sweet dreams  hugs

DoDD doesn't always offer preschool, so Japanese preschool is an excellent option.

Comment by Kim on May 26, 2015 at 8:16am

Thanks AntiM, I will pass that on.  He is a little frustrated dealing with high school kids that don't appreciate what they have.

His wife grew up thinking that high school was something that you earned.  Her family is poor, but they managed the tuition.

I pointed out to him that his grandparents grew up in the depression.  Every child was motivated to succeed.  Less work for the parents, but not the best situation.

Their plan is career navy, so I assume they will learn about the DoD schools soon.

Kim, grats on the advancement.

School in Japan ... I tutored a number of my Japanese neighbor kids in English, so I was familiar with what they studied.  Not sure I  totally agree that their schools are "better".  Kindergarten and lower grades yes.  Certain subjects, yes, and I like some of the cultural aspects such as cleaning their classrooms.  And much better than many districts in the US .  But I've seen the bad side too.  They still have bullies, and being the slightest bit different in Japan is difficult. The boy in the house across from me became very sick from stress over school, his mother gave us his dog because he "has to study too much".  It was sad.   Their high schools compare to ours much better because we must teach all children, they only teach those who can pass the entrance exams and pay the fees.  Unfair to put the two up side by side.

I subbed high school/middle school on base for the DoDDS.  Now there was a quality school.  Had the usual range of problems with funding, and American teens are well, teenagers.  But the staff was top notch and the military families had to pass overseas screening to even get into the country, so the worst we see in the States were not there.  Lots of kids whose fathers were retied military working on base and paying the tuition, which was much cheaper than offbase (and no exams).

The best high school for American kids who didn't qualify to attend a DoDDS school was in Tokyo, the International School.  Excellent.  I went to one when we lived in Iran.

Sorry about the ramble!  Topic is close to my heart; I subbed full time, knew 700 kids by name, and I miss them all.
