Ok I sent her off to Japan on Memorial Day.  That was a long few days making sure she made it safely.  Now we wait again and she should be joining up the GW soon.  I think they are flying her off to Guam or Australia to meet up with the GW. Then she can travel around the world.  That is why she joined the Navy after all.... she kept saying join the Navy see the world... LOL   I hope she enjoys herself too!!   Was really hard saying Goodbye to her again... but I know she will be doing what she trained so hard for all these long months away...   the two weeks went by so fast - she saw some friends - had some family  meal times and it was time to go back again ...    :(

Welcome TerriNavyMom!  Enjoy having your girl home. Confused?  Get use to it...it's the Navy!  lol  I think confusing is the norm in the Navy!  The GW is coming to Virginia for RCOH (Refueling & Complex Overhaul) which takes several years to complete that's why they are doing the hull swap. The USS Ronald Reagan will be the new forward deployed carrier in Japan.  A lot of the sailors like it over there.  My son has really enjoyed his time there (2 1/2 yrs) Hopefully your daughter will find out relatively soon after getting to Japan as to whether she'll be with the GW or do the transfer. My guess is that she'll be on the Reagan but that's purely a guess.  Let us know what happens.  Hope she likes Japan!

My Daughter will be joining the USS GW next week.  She just finished up her A School training is home for now then will be flying off to Japan to join the GW.    This is all Brand new to me as she has just finished A School and its been a blur every since...  I am especially looking for tips about foreign life. Not exactly sure if she will be going to VA or staying in Japan though ??   Very confused about this whole Hull Swap thing.. ??

my Sailor has 2 + years remaining on his contract but still coming to the States. Not sure that is correct

Comment by MaggieMay on May 18, 2015 at 10:30am

According to my son, sailors whose current contract with the Navy was ending within a certain time frame (don't know what those dates were) were given the option to stay with the GW or transfer.  My son's contract is up in December and he chose to stay.  He's an Aviation Tech.  I bet there were a lot of factors to consider when deciding who stays and who transfers, but it sounded to me that newer sailors would transfer because of the amount of time still left on their orders.

My Son is undes. He told me all undes are staying with the GW., he is also with the reac unit which I believe is also staying with the GW.. Never thought I would be praying the summer away.. BUT come on December !

My son will be staying with the GW also! Just curious what career fields are all staying with the GW? Is it a little bit of everyone or just those undesignated?

Off they go!! my son will be transferring over to the RR unfortunately. I was hoping to have him stay on the GW but those cards didn't play out right!

Well ladies the GW has departed Japan.  I know that normally it's kinda sad when they leave because of the lack of communications with our sailors; but since my son is staying with the G-dub I am feeling very excited today because this means the journey home has begun...home to the states anyway.  I know many of you have sailors transferring to the Reagan and are disappointed but try to be positive and be happy for the changes your sailors will be experiencing.  Fair winds and following seas to the GW!

On another note, some of you are going to be stuck with me for quite a while.  My son got his orders and after deployment he will be going to Biloxi for advanced schooling but after school he will be headed back to the GW.   Yep I get to stay with this GW group for several more years.  Looking forward to our time in Virginia!

Have a beautiful day ladies!
