I just got a text from the recruiter with an address and estimated PIR date. I know I read somewhere on here that the addresses from recruiters are not always accurate. I figure I'll make copies of the letters I send and once I get the form letter I'll resend them if different.

I got the address from the recruiter and started writing my SR four days after he left.  The only difference is the recruiter told us "11 USS Kearsarge" and you only have to write "Ship 11".  That was the only difference.

Also, MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS RIGHT NOW for Navy Lodge.  If you wait until everyone gets their form letter, it may be too late.  That's what I did and I'm glad I did, because PIR is 7/10 and Navy Lodge was full four days ago!  You can always change them if something happens.  They don't charge for changes, cancellations, etc., unless it is done just before you are due to arrive.

Thank you for the information. We only live about an hour from Great Lakes so I'll save the Navy Lodge rooms for those who are unfamiliar with the area.

Hi Kerry, My son left the same day, but I haven't heard from the recruiter yet.  I called him this evening and left a message on his cell phone.  He hasn't called back.  Maybe I will text him in the morning.  Any information would be helpful at this point.  Can you share the estimated PIR date?  I would imagine they would probably be graduating the same week.

The PIR date is July 24th. My son's recruiter has been really great. My husband enlisted in the Navy after we were married and that recruiter was far less helpful.

Thanks!  That's great.  If we get to spend the weekend with him it looks like we will see him on his birthday the 26th.  Which will probably be the day he ships off to A school!

The problem with writing early is that they CAN'T receive any mail until there is a SR trained to handle the ship/Division mail. THAT will take a few weeks up to and perhaps beyond the time you receive the "form letter", so any mail sent early will just sit there until the Chiefs decide to start having mail delivered. Just saying that there is a reason the "veteran" moms say to wait for the letter.
