my son was supposed to graduate on 4/24 but he called and said that he wont be graduating because he did not pass something.  His recruiter said it was probably the FIT testing and now he will go into a special division that does this.  Anyone able to tell me what is going on?

I'm so sorry.  This is difficult after you have spent all this time waiting and perhaps planning for graduation.

They have to pass a running test and a swimming test.  If they fail one, they go to FIT which gives them a chance to train and retake the test.  After they pass the test they will go on the next 'Battle Stations" and then you will get the "I'm a sailor" call.  There will be no graduation (this is difficult, but it is just the way they do it).

My daughter was able to call once while she was in FIT, but your son may not have that opportunity.  I'm afraid for the most part you will be in the dark, so rely on the people in this group for support.

I hope you get the call sooner than later.  Waiting is tough, but remember it isn't forever.

I should have noted that since it is only Tuesday, it is possible your son could pass the test, get through Battle Stations, and still PIR with his division.

I was able to email the public affairs officer and he wrote me back and told me my son is in the FIT program for running.  He gave me his new address.  He said that as soon as he passes they will fly him to A school so he doesn't lose his seat in class.  I feel much better now knowing.

We missed the call from our daughter on Friday, bad cell connections just not graduating. Thank fully the Public Affairs Office gave us her new address and explained she had failed the running part of the PFA. We knew she had been trying to cut 2 minutes from her time. The worst part was no address to write, we have that now and dropped a card of support in the mail. Does anyone know the difference between the FIT Divisions? To tell you the truth I am okay with her missing graduation I just want to give her support while working towards being a Sailor. A giant THANK YOU to the Public Affairs Officer for getting us the info.

Just wanted to thank everyone for responding and wanted to let everyone know that the Fit program is divided into swim and run, but doesn't really mean that that's what they are trying to pass in, It could be pushups or sit ups.  My son went to fit, he did finish and is now in South Carolina at Nuclear Power School.  I was told by my son as well as other kids who went into Fit that they don't regret it at all.  They actually liked it.  They had personalized help and got very fit.....They literally made sure my son passed and then my son spent most of his time waiting to fly to South Carolina then had to wait for classes to fill up so he can start school.  He is in school now and does not regret a thing.  Nothing wrong with fit.  My son liked how "FIT" he became when he had to go through it.  The upper classmen spend a lot of time making sure everyone passes.

Hi, my daughter just went into FIT. she didn't pass her run PFA. She is very sad and was crying on the phone. Is there anything I can tell her to encourage her more. She says she hates it there. I've never heard her talking so negative. She's only been there a week, please help. Thanks, Debbie

poos - My son has been there since 7/16 for the same thing. I know how you feel. Just keep reassuring her to not give up. Like I told my son, they made it through boot camp and this is just one more hurdle to overcome and not to give up on this one thing. Otherwise they will kick themselves later for it.
I will add your daughter to my list for prayers.

Thank you, Alex's Mom, I appreciate your response. I do send tons of letters of encouragement and it is so damn tough for me at times, (I don't tell her that.) Thank you for including her in you prayers, I will do the same for your son. Thank you and God Bless..Poos

I know how you feel. I haven't let on to Alex about how hard this is for me either.
We received a call last Sunday night that my son didn't pass the final run part..still waiting by the phone in hopes we will get that last minute call that he passed the run and BS in time for PIR tomorrow. If not, can anyone advise how we get his new mailing address? I am really needing to send letters and cards of encouragement!!!

shellieland618 -  My son is in the FIT Program and has been there since 7/17 (missed his PIR on 7/24). The address that I have been sending mail to is

SR Last name, first name
Ship 4, Div. 2247 (FIT MALE)
3600 Ohio Street
Great Lakes IL 60088-7103

This is the address given to me after I emailed the Public Affairs Office.

I have been patiently awaiting word from my son since 7/26 when he called me.

Thank you Alex's mom. I sent an email to PAO but hadn't gotten a reply. Do they get to write from FIT or is it just no contact until they finally pass. My son missed his required time for the final run, so I'm hoping he won't be delayed too terribly long.
