Hi DebP. This is my sins first deployment also. He reported to his ship in September and went underway for a month. When they got back he lived in the ship. I believe they have to live on the ship for a period of time before they move to housing.
The ship takes leaves in two week intervals. One half goes the first two weeks and then the second half goes the next two weeks. So he won't be alone! Don't feel guilty either!! They can actually call home whenever they want once they get back! We're going down for the homecoming only because we live in PA and the drive isn't so horrible. I'm sure there will be times when we won't be able to make it.

So this is my sons first deployment. He arrived on the ship end of May. We are not planning to attend the arrival because he was just home middle of May. He was in the barracks before he deployed to the ship. Is it fair to say he will stay on the ship when it arrives in port or will he go to the barracks again. I feel bad that we won't be there. The GF is visiting in August. We did send photos for the slide show that they are going to show them before they port. Just hate that he will be alone when they arrive. Feeling guilty can't you tell!
