Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son goes to the recruiter tomorrow and then we have the afternoon with him and dinner. His recruiter told him it's too much of a hassle to have us come to the airport with him. So tomorrow night after dinner we say our goodbyes. It's getting way too real now. None of us have appetites due to nerves!

fayegirrl4, we live close to mess too so we are taking him to dinner Wednesday night and will be able to see him swear in again and wait with him till he flies out. RTC is several hours from us as we are in Oklahoma but will be going to PIR.

Hang in there Moo! Your son will do great! There is always that small bit of "am I doing the right thing" feeling.
Our son leaves for MEPS tomorrow then swears in again on Tuesday. My mom and I will take him to dinner tomorrow night and watch him swear in. We are fortunate to live pretty close to MEPS. RTC is about 5 1/2 hours away via car so we are very excited for PIR. Its finally time to say our "SEE YOU SOONS" and I hope I can remain composed. Congrats to everyone who has sent their loved ones before us and THANK THEM for their service for us!

5 days until my son leaves. Celebrating his birthday today, kinda emotional for me but suckling it up for him because he is beginning to have some doubts. I just keep praying that if this is the path he is meant to travel to keep it flowing smoothly and for him to feel confident in his decision.

Thanks, Yes we know he has to stay at the hotel.  we were told by his recruiter that we can go down and have dinner with him so that is our plan.  We have been doing a lot of reading and research so we are as ready as we are going to be. Thanks again for the info.  He is our oldest Son.  He has older sisters but they went the college route.  So he is the first to leave home so you can an imagine.....This has been very helpful reading about others who have gone or are going through the same types of things we are going through with him right now.

Arlene, future Sailors must spend the night before swearing in at a hotel. It's just how it is. I left info on your My Page.

My son is leaving on July 7th.  We have to take him to the recruiters at 2:00 PM on the 6th.  Seems early to me as The MEPS is about 1 hour a way.  We plan on going down to spend the evening with him and then go back the next day.  It has been rough but he seems ready.

For those who are wondering, your recruit is "Enlisted" from the time s/he swears in at MEPS on the way to the RTC and begins getting paid on that day.

Comment by lemonelephant on July 2, 2015 at 4:15pm

Just a reminder, until your son/daughter ships, s/he is a future Sailor. After s/he swears in a MEPS and while at the RTC, s/he is a recruit. You will not have a Sailor until sometime in the last week before PIR when your recruit finishes Battle Stations-21 (BST) and trades in the Recruit ball cap for a Navy ball cap and becomes a Sailor. Later that day, you will receive the "I'm a Sailor!" call and after that, you can refer to your son/daughter as a Sailor, but not until.

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to  Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
