The countdown is going faster and faster for future sailors leaving this July. If my son leaves here on July 1st, what do they do at boot camp on July
4th. I know they are not at boot camp for celebrations and holidays, but wow what an awesome opportunity to begin your military days during the week of Our Independance Celebration

My oldest left on July 2 2012. Although they have an amazing fourth of July celebration in great lakes, they didn't get to go because the were on hold. Hopefully that's changed though.

Thank you. . . .seems like it would be an awesome time to be at bootcamp for 4th of July. . .not to celebrate, but just seems like being there during this particular holiday would be the best one to be there for

My son leaves on July 1st also!  I am getting nervous!!!!

Does your son keep you informed of what is going on??  Either my son doesn't know or he just doesn't let me know!  I am trying to figure out if he has to go to MEPS on June 30 and leave on July 1st or headed to MEPS on July 1st and leave on the 2nd.

Shawn's Mom:  Of course I can't answer for sure for your son, but I asked my son's recruiter and was told that on the afternoon of the 30th, my son is to meet at our local Navy office when his recruiter is . . . they will do some paperwork and then recruiter will take my son to the MEPS hotel to check in.  We can then go take him to dinner but have to have it back to hotel by 10pm.  The next morning we are supposed to be at MEPS by 8:30am.  They will finish up paperwork and do final swear in.  From there, he will be transported to airport to catch flight to the boot camp area.  We are allowed to go to airport, but can't go past security area.  I look forward to getting to know you and Natters31 as we begin this next journey

Shawn's recruiter just had a baby so I can't ask her any questions, which makes it hard.  I hope Shawn will let me go to his next meeting but he says he is 20 years old and can do it by himself but yet he can't seem to do his own laundry!  Funny how that works...

Haha glad I'm not alone!!  Shawn doesn't tell me anything and I pester him to learn his start book!

He said he doesn't know when his meeting with the recruiter is, but I figure it must be soon.

9 days...I gave my boy a haircut last night, the last one for awhile!  I asked, "You can't wait 10 days???"  He said it was driving him crazy!  He is so excited to start his new journey and I am excited for him but once in awhile a few tears fall.  How are your boys holding up?

My son was suppose to go to see his recruiter last Thursday to bring him down his diploma (which he has brought down at least twice and gave them his college twice) but no one was in the office!!  I hope that he is all set to leave on July 1st!  He hasn't heard anything different.  We live an hour away and they make him drive down at least once a week to do something he has already done but they don't do what they are suppose to do!  Frustrating...

Just checking to see if your recruits are at boot camp now and if so what day they shipped out.  Ours left on July 1st as scheduled and we heard from him that night for his final call on his cell phone.  We are still anxiously waiting for his box and his form letter.  There is a facebook page for the recruits who got there last week and have a PIR of 8-28-15 that you can join.  There have been a few families now that have received their boxes.
