Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Son left today about !;00 he is already at the USO in Chicago.  the recruiter let us take him to the hotel yesterday and we spent all evening with him and took him to dinner.  He has a really good attitude.  He was smiling this morning at MEPS and smiling as he went up the elevator at the airport.  tough day but very proud.  there were 2 other young men going with him on the same flight so that was encouraging.  One was his roommate last night at the hotel.  Good luck every one.

Just took my son to the Navy recruiter's office 2hrs ago, and have stopped crying, for now!! Will get to go to his "Official" swearing in and then it's off to Great Lakes!!

We went to watch him swear in, got to have lunch and he is on his way! Gut wrenching for us mom's isn't it? We hold them close and protect them and then just have to let them go. I don't think I exhaled until we left the building. His younger sister and brother and girlfriend and myself all balling all the way to the car. Goodbyes are the hardest part I know. And none harder than today :(

I would like to reach out to some moms whose children are in NSW programs.  Sorry I have not learned all of the terminology.  I know there is not a lot you can say on here publicly, but I do have some questions about the process after boot camp if anyone is willing to friend me.

Hi Moms!  Just came from our last meeting at Recruiters office with our son.  He's leaving next Tuesday for BC.  I'm feeling very sad and overwhelmed that he will not be living here again for a very long time... He's my youngest.... we will be empty nesters after that.  My heart is literally aching.  I know this is the right decision for him.... but the worry of his journey into the teams is almost unbearable.  Sorry... just needed to reach out to some Moms for their strength... Hi. My son is leaving for boot camp today. We are waiting on the recruiter to pick him up now. It is so bittersweet. I am going to miss him so much and I am trying not to let my emotions get the best of me. I am so proud of him. He is beginning a new chapter of his life and I wish him all the best. He has touched many lives and know he will continue to do so with his fellow recruits.

My son is having some serious doubts. He started crying this evening and telling me he doesn't want to go. I told him I can't make the decision for him that he has to decide for himself. I hate to see him so upset but I told him there are many pluses to him going but again it is his choice because it is his future.

Hi, my son will head to MEP'S tomorrow July 6th and head out July 7th. We will also have dinner and evening with him. I am a single mom of 3 and all weekend has been a little emotional to say the least. He is my oldest but this has always been where he was going since he was 5. That being said, knowing for the past 14 years hasn't helped me prepare for this.

Moo, we live in SW Ohio, Between Cincinnati and Dayton. We've only been to Chicago one time for a brief family trip so we are looking forward to going back up for PIR, even if we won't have a lot of time with our son before he ships out to A school. Good luck to your son and you!
