OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

mama K. - I believe if you go to the main page and scroll down to N4M Groups: Listed by PIR Date Thru 8/21/15, then click on the 8/14/15 graduation link. This should give you graduation information.

We received a call on Sunday, July 5th from my son. He is ship 14, division 269. He is very, very homesick. I was more upset after talking to him then when he left. He also hurt his knee and is on crutches so I am sure this does not help. He goes to medical tomorrow and he will be able to call us and let us know what is going on. I am hoping after we spoke with him and encouraged him to be strong and that he can do this and is OK, he was better. He is doubting himself and wants his family. I have spoken to many people who were or have kids in the military and they said this is normal. I hope so because I am not feeling normal...LOL!

Megan, I wish recruiters would give this site and Navy Dads info to their recruits.  It would make things a little easier for everyone, them included.  With the info found here they'd get less questions from family.  :)

Welcome Megan!

No more freaking out, it is bad for the health. :)

Hi everyone!! My husband is in Ship 14 DIV 270.  I am very new to this whole Navy life and actually spent the last couple of weeks freaking out about how I could pull off planning a trip to Chicago on my own.. I never received the brochure in the mail.. in my desperation I googled a few things and this site came up!  Through this website I was able to find not only that brochure (that helped immensely!) but also a community to share with!

I am so elated to know this website exists.. I can't believe I spent those first 3 weeks freaking out, I should have just looked this up from the get go :P
