I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

OKay, two answers ... if a sailor is E-3 or below, they cannot take dependents to an overseas location.  To go overseas, "command sponsorship" is required, and it is not automatically granted to junior sailors.  They can put in for a waiver, but it might not be granted.  If he gets Guam, you can go there because it is a US territory, but the Navy won't give him a dime to live offbase, or for food.  Look up how expensive it is to live there, it is pretty pricey.  You would not have access to the base facilities, so it would be quite difficult.  The good news is if you are married, Guam is an easier place to get a waiver for sponsorship.

If you have a child, you cannot join the Navy unless you are married.  No single parents, period.  Giving temporary custody to a grandparent is not allowed.  Boyfriend/girlfriend are not a legal status, the Navy doesn't care.  So you would need to marry first, and have a Family Care Plan.

I was Navy married to Navy.  Being stationed together is called spouse co-location.  First term sailors straight out of boot camp/A school do NOT qualify for it.  You can put in a request form for it after one year at a command, but they don't have to give it to you.  One of you will be on sea duty, if not both of you; makes raising a child very difficult.  Yes, they do try to keep couples together, but needs of the Navy come first.   The first two years of my marriage, as a dual military couple, we saw each other a total of 28 days in two years.

Do not join the Navy unless it is your passion.  Doing it for the money is a terrible idea if you want to keep your family intact.

i am planning to join the airforce or navy for a long time but my bf went first is there any possibility that we can be stationed in same place if i join the navy ? or we have to be married so that we can have same duty station .
Comment by navygirlfriend on July 28, 2015 at 7:07pm
anti m , so does this mean that he would get a hard time taking me and our son with him at his first duty station ? i mean like we're not yet married but i heard that he can still live with us but we won't get any housing allowance

If there are orders to Guam in the pool for his class, and his dream sheet indicates Guam, then yes, there is a chance he'll get those orders.  But there are so many variables, it is hard to tell.  Single junior sailors often get overseas orders because the families cannot go and it saves the Navy money.

@navygirlfriend... there is more to training than A school, that just teaches the basics of a rating.  His second school is probably a C school, which teaches special specific skills.  They can go to those any time the command wants, or between duty stations.  I went to half a dozen C schools  in nine years. Some were very short.

anti M , thank you so much , my bf in currently in A school in Pensacola he said he will be there for a 1 month and wait for next command to go another place for schooling , for some reason i didn't unterstood what he meant to say cuz i was thinking that They only go to one place for A school . how is that ?

Part of this I shared on a different wall/group, but I thought this group would understand this part....

Hi all,

We are still in P-days, as far as I know...

My husband and I have been together a long time; we have practically grown up together. He is very sweet and Tech Savvy....at 7a today I got a "reminder" alert on my phone with a note attached from him. Somehow he has set this up to go off ahead of time. Idk how he did it, but I am happy that he did!! Love him so much, as I know, we all love our SR's!

Hi Cerena. Yes bootcamp starts as soon as they arrive in Illinois, although the first week is more a period of INDOC where they go through a lot of paperwork and get all of their stuff. Do NOT try to get tickets until you receive a paper from him telling you his graduation date. Depending on the division it could be 7,8,or 9 weeks. My husband was in a push division where it was about 6.5-7 weeks instead of the normal time. But you definitely won't know anything until he sends the paper. The paper will also have a list of four people he's chosen to come see his graduation. Only those four people can actually go inside the ceremony as it gets very crowded. Other people can come but they will have to sit in the chapel until the ceremony is over. Also when you do get tickets make sure you get insurance on them because sometimes people can get set back in training. Hopefully it won't happen to your sailor but there's always a possibility. Good luck to you and your sailor! :)
