Let's chat about our wonderful sons and daughters who have chosen the PACT program.

Hello

It has been a long time since I have posted and I am sorry. I hope everyone has been able to connect with others in the PACT program. My son is now 3 and a half years in and it has been a great experience. He thought he wanted to be an AM. When he got on the ship, he was put with the AO’s. Now he is an AD3. It was best for him to start PACT because we didn’t know much about the Navy and he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. This has been a good route for him.

I'm listening (reading) all this because my son is deployed right now but, from what I understand, his ship will be in dry dock for 2 years when it gets back. I will take note of the advice!!

Congrats to our new sailors!!!! Have fun on Friday!! It is amazing!! I've said it before but my son is glad he didn't get the job he wanted and is APACT because now he sees what he wants to go for.

Susanna, the Apacts go to Pensacola. Let us know how we can help. I haven't been on in a while. My son graduated BC 7/22 Apact. He was deployed in March and is in the Arabian Sea in the Middle East. Me has been applying for a job that he wants each month the past 3 months. He is currently doing GM and AO. His chief asked him if he wanted to be a Gunners Mate and he said no. He was one of 3 in his division nominated for Sailor of the Month. He is happy he is being recognized for his hard work.

Thank you. I am a little slow to join this group. My son's PIR was 5/22.  We loved it and are so proud of him.  He went to A-school in Pensacola and just got to Norfolk last week.  I think that he is A PACT, but I will need to ask him to be sure.  I am still learning all of these terms. :)  But having this PACT mom's group is great.

Splash- Thanks, I was just about to ask how long she was on the barge. I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I just keep telling myself and my son that. Your right being a miltary mom is not for whimps! Thanks ladies, It helps so much knowing were not alone in this. My husband thinks I worry way to much, but I am a mama thats what I do!

I want to add that about 2 months after arriving in SD she was moved to new barracks. So there is hope. In the mean time they are learning to be more resilient. Being a mom is not for sissies! Especially a military mom. A couple nights ago I was adking her if she has any regrets about being undesignated or bieing in the Navy. She said why are you asking me all these questions? I told her we moms try to be supportive of each other. She said "why do you moms worry so much" lol! I told her she wont understand until she is a mom. And this girl was so home sick and wanted me to move to SD and live with her. She is now pretty settled. And just got there in Jan. Have faith..it will get better.

When my daughter got to SD she called me crying because of her living conditions. She said it was filthy and the smell was horrible and that she could not live there. . Her room mate at the time said it was the nicest place she ever lived...a very different perspective!

and yes...I also feel bad every time I climb into my bed.

jojosmom, I think the barges are the worst, I have heard the ships are better. We are still no new, we are learning as we go.

Michael's mom, I think about that every night when I lay down. My son didn't even have toliet paper! We both were in shock! I just got a text from him and seems a little better today! Bless him! Bless them all! I will never look at a sailor the same way! They go thru lots to be who they are!
