Welcome to the Division Discussion for Division 943

Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important

Every single concern is genuine

Every single member is important to us

We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Fremont, my daughter agrees with what you heard from yours, but she says the trouble is getting to be less and they are teaming up on the important tasks. She said otherwise it's like a bunch of high school girl attitudes. She said she thinks it will start to straighten up soon though as the "issues" are becoming less and less.
943 just had to hang up. We had 48 mins. Div 943 is starting to come together as a team according to my daughter, and they are doing pretty well on "the things that matter". Hope everyone else got their calls also!

To all parents- avoid any/all references to any "background checks", even if it seems superfluous or really not big deal.  Developing good OPSEC habits now helps enormously.  In the wake of things that happened in Chattanooga (who would've imagined that?!!!) and the flat-out threats and lone-wolf crazies out there- do practice good OPSEC- especially with those that have even the most remotely classified/sensitive ratings.  Your son or daughter is heading out to protect our country and way of life- do your part to protect them.  It's amazing how some simple sleuthing can pull out the personal details on someone or even correlate them back to you and your non-active duty family.  "Be Proud But Don't Be Loud" when it comes to the kids with very sensitive ratings.  I'm telling you even casual comments can collectively hurt.   It's a long text but PLEASE read and HEED the OPSEC posting elsewhere on this site.   Thanks!

My understanding is they are issued a small calling card in their navy backpack on arrival. I never got around to asking my son if this is true (he just graduated 3 wks ago, and my daughter is in right now) but I do know they can purchase them at the NEX with their nex card if they need another one. If he is a talker though I have heard that the penny talk card from Walgreens is much cheaper( and huge amount of minutes) than what they can purchase on base. You could send one if you want to.

It is a bit confusing.  We sent two calling cards (I activated and tested them before sending) and ours daughter said it was quicker to use her NFCU debit card as you dial and then just key in the debit card info.  But calling card isn't much different.  They just have to use the 800 number access code in most cases which can eat about 1-2 cents more a minute off the card.

But be advised, IMPORTANT TIP!!!  In this age of annoying telemarketing and unsolicited presidential campaign calls coming in, we are in the habit of screening all calls.

While your loved one is in Basic ANSWER ALL CALLS- ours called and caller ID showed it had a Omaha, NE area code!  I first ignored it because I was looking for Chicago area codes.   Thank goodness my wife picked up our daughter's second try- I was almost in tears thinking I would've missed the call.  Fortunately we were both home and got on speaker mode!!!

But again- they must have some way to pay for the call- they are given no free calls during their divisional calling privilege day/time slot.

My son is also in 943 and called me on sunday - he said he got a calling card when he got there -300min_ not sure if he bought it or it was given but he acted as if that was the norm for all of them .. I asked if he wanted me to send him one and he said no- he would never need more than 300 min while only being there until 9/4... Hope that helps some

They must be giving them the cards or buying with their first pay check?  That's great though.   Maybe they sell the SRs a fixed card.

I just missed a call from my SR, I know, I am dying inside...:( His message stated that his graduation date has been pushed back 2 weeks due to recruit to recruit contact. I couldn't understand what he was calling it. What else does this mean?  Will this change is ship and div? I'm so confused...

Sounds like he has been asmo'd. I am guessing there was some fraternization there if it was called recruit to recruit contact, just my guess. This policy is very strict while in BC. Don't guess what may actually have happened, as it could have been any of a number of things, and even the smallest infraction can do this.

If this is the case, and he has been asmo'd, he will have a new PIR date (09/24?), division, and ship number. You may get another phone call informing you, or possibly just another form letter informing you of the changes.

What div is he in? My fiancé is in 943. Does that mean all divisions graduation is pushed back??

No ErinGC, it would just be those involved, never an entire division.

wondering if moms from ship 2 div943 have rsvp to sergs meet and greet -We are getting closer to seeing are sailors ! looking forward to meeting all of you>>And if any of you find out any info on div943 -love to hear about them...My son said in the one phone call I have received "That they are being treated well and he is making good friends"his only complaint was no privacy at all-lol --Praying they are all doing Good this week
