N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

LiveFreeOrDie:  Hmmm.....you may not find a SOLIDER to adopt for PIR, but there will be lots of SAILORS!  HA!  We love our soldiers, don't get me wrong, but they won't be graduating Navy Bootcamp! :-)   It is a wonderful thing to do, by the way, so let your SR know to be looking for a friend who wants to join you for PIR day!

Good Morning All !

So as I suspected my son sent the box to his Dad which is fine but we are both anxiously waiting on the form letter. Everyday I go to the mailbox my heart sinks. I know there won't be a personalized letter but I just want something. Anything at this point. I'm counting the days until I can see him again. I miss him so much. What was the gap between box & form letter for the majority or you all? A day? A few days? I know I'm very impatient but seeing as my son was unclear as to what he is sending where it's anyone's guess. I'd also like to do the adopt a soldier for PIR. Is anyone else in this group thinking of doing that or has already committed to that? Just curious. Thanks everyone. It's nice to know we are all in this together.

Ellen0502. Is there a link for this PIR page? I am still new to this forum.

I am glad he couldn't keep his cell phone. It would have been a distraction. So the money he took with him he can use for calling card? The recruiter said he had way enough money for boot camp. So I am assuming so. Or should I just send a calling card? A payphone. My recruit won't even know how to use one of those. Lol... He will learn real quick. I checked the mailbox last night and form letter was in there. I thought it was cute that he put ”mom" and "dad" as our names on the access list. I will be sending him a letter soon so we will get that corrected.

ellen0502, On the page that lists all of the PIR dates it says that 817 and 818 are part of the 9/11 PIR. It also says that 819 is part of the 9/18 PIR and I got that division number from the recruiter. Since 819 is listed under 9/18 PIR I am assuming that is his PIR.

Comment by ellen0502 on July 30, 2015 at 10:57pm

WAnavyFiance, I am not sure if division 819 is in this group. I know divisions 817 and 818 are, but division 819 at this point has me a slightly baffled for this PIR. Did t he recruiter give you a PIR of 9/18, or are you figuring out the date because of when he arrived?

If you don't have the PIR date it is very possible that many 800's arrived at almost the same time, and your recruit is in an 800 division in the next PIR. That would be why you don't have his form letter yet, as those would not have been sent as this TG was sending theirs.

The 800 divisions form a little different than regular divisions, so it doesn't surprise me that some in this group arrived after your recruit, that would be quite normal.

Hey everyone,

I know I'm not necessarily supposed to post this but I need some positive thoughts since I keep getting angry everyday I walk away from my mail box. Do any of your SRs have an EOD contract? Mine left before some of yours and I still have not received the form letter. I know it can take a couple of weeks at times but my patience is wearing thin. I really just want to know when his graduation date is so I can confidently purchase plan tickets. According to his recruiter he is in 819, so 9/18 PIR date but not having it in writing has been quite the bummer the past four days!

The wallets are allowed to be kept, no problem.

Comment by diannep on July 30, 2015 at 6:30pm

tbird:  They call from payphones, hence the need for them to have a phone card, which you can mail to your SR or it can be bought at the NEX with their supply card (issued when they arrived).  They are NOT allowed to keep their cell phones....some in the past have managed to....it is a huge problem if they are caught!  So good that yours mailed the phone back!
